ABOUT THE ROLE
Aggregates is an exciting industry where students have the opportunity to experience the innovative and challenging world of mining while still being situated in an urban environment. As a Labourer – Summer Student, you are responsible for supporting the operations of the plants in the pits and quarries of the area. This position involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and assisting with general site maintenance. Responsibilities include plant clean-up using hand tools such as shovels, lifting materials up to 50 lbs, and completing landscaping and housekeeping tasks such as weed trimming, grass cutting, painting, and debris removal. In addition, you may be responsible for weighing and ticketing customer trucks at the scale house. The role may also include supporting administrative tasks, participating in safety and housekeeping initiatives, and contributing to basic operational or analytical projects.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
- Promote safety culture through learning with our employees and subcontractors to assist in achieving "zero harm".
- Develop, administer, and promote safety processes using new digital tools.
- Ensure the site meets or exceeds all Amrize and Regulatory guidelines.
- Report and manage environmental spills to site management and operate equipment to minimize carbon footprint.
- Perform general housekeeping tasks, including litter removal and maintenance of fences and signs, to ensure the site is presentable.
- Provide polite and professional customer service and support.
- Assist in the implementation and leadership of Amrize safety standards.
- Collaborate closely with production, shipping, quality, and environmental staff under the direction of the Plant Lead Hand or Manager.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviours.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Education: Currently enrolled in a College or University program.
- Technical Skills: Advanced knowledge of MS Office (particularly Excel) and excellent knowledge of Google Suite.
- Communication: Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Teamwork: Demonstrated time management and teamwork skills.
- Experience: Construction industry experience is considered an asset.
- License: Possess a full G class license with access to a vehicle.
- Travel: Ability to travel as the plant moves
Additional Requirements:
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
