ABOUT THIS ROLE

Amrize, a leading supplier of quality, construction building materials in the United States, has immediate openings for a Night Shift Welder to support our plant operations in Accokeek, Maryland. This position combines skilled welding and fabrication with hands-on plant mechanical maintenance. The successful candidate will be responsible for welding, repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining equipment such as crushers, conveyors, screens, hoppers, feeders, and other heavy machinery to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. The candidate must follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and hot-work requirements, while working closely with plant operators and the maintenance team.

 

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Perform welding, fabrication, mechanical repairs, and maintenance on crushers, conveyors, screens, hoppers, feeders, chutes, bins, and other aggregate processing equipment.
  • Inspect plant equipment for cracks, excessive wear, damage, alignment issues, and mechanical deficiencies; identify repair needs and communicate recommendations to the maintenance team.
  • Perform structural and equipment repairs using stick, MIG, TIG welding and cutting processes as required.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, equipment drawings, repair drawings, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Repair, rebuild, modify, or replace worn and damaged metal components to maintain equipment reliability and minimize production downtime.
  • Perform mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting on conveyors, bearings, pulleys, gearboxes, shafts, belts, screens, crushers, pumps, and other plant equipment.
  • Remove, install, align, and replace mechanical components, including bearings, rollers, belts, guards, shafts, liners, wear plates, screens, and other parts.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on aggregate processing equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation.
  • Assist with crusher and conveyor maintenance, including changing wear parts, liners, belts, rollers, bearings, and other components.
  • Assist with equipment installations, modifications, shutdowns, rebuilds, and major repair projects.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical problems and work with maintenance personnel and plant operators to identify the cause of equipment failures and complete repairs efficiently.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and maintenance needs during the night shift to support continuous production and reduce equipment downtime.
  • Perform routine inspections of plant equipment and report unsafe conditions, abnormal operation, excessive wear, or potential failures.
  • Follow all company safety policies, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, confined-space procedures, hot-work requirements, and other applicable safety practices.
  • Coordinate with plant operators and other maintenance personnel to safely isolate equipment and complete repairs with minimal disruption to production.
  • Complete maintenance and repair documentation and communicate completed work, outstanding repairs, and equipment concerns to the appropriate supervisor or maintenance team.
  • Assist other maintenance personnel with electrical, mechanical, fabrication, welding, and general plant maintenance tasks as qualified and directed.
  • Work independently during the night shift while maintaining effective communication with supervisors, operators, and maintenance personnel.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; vocational welding training and AWS welding certification are preferred.
  • Field of Study Preferred: Welding Technology, Welding and Fabrication, Metal Fabrication, or a related skilled trades program.
  • Required Work Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of welding experience in an aggregate plant, quarry, mining, construction, or other heavy industrial maintenance environment, with experience repairing heavy equipment and structural components preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with stick, MIG, TIG, and/or oxy-fuel welding and cutting.
  • Experience repairing and maintaining industrial equipment, conveyors, crushers, screens, feeders, pumps, and related machinery.
  • Experience working in an aggregate plant, quarry, mining operation, construction, manufacturing, or other heavy industrial environment is preferred.
  • Ablility to identify mechanical problems, determine the cause of equipment failures, and make effective repairs.
  • Ability to fabricate, repair, modify, and replace steel components, wear plates, guards, chutes, hoppers, and other equipment parts.
  • Able to identify worn or damaged components and address problems before they lead to major breakdowns or production downtime.
  • Comfortable reading blueprints, welding symbols, equipment drawings, and repair specifications.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), hot-work procedures, PPE, and safe use of tools and equipment.
  • Works effectively with plant operators, mechanics, welders, supervisors, and other maintenance personnel to keep production running.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and capable of working independently during the night shift while responding to equipment breakdowns and maintenance needs.


Additional Requirements:

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests
