ABOUT THE ROLE
The Health & Safety Director is responsible for ensuring compliance with management systems and driving a safety-first culture across all operations. This role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring Health & Safety (H&S) programs, regulatory compliance, and performance metrics to meet both internal and external safety standards. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of North American H&S regulations, the ability to collaborate cross-functionally, and the expertise to promote best practices that minimize risk and foster a safe working environment.
Depending upon assignment, the H&S Director will oversee H&S systems and processes across the entire organization and/or cover multiple product lines (i.e., Cement, Aggregates, etc.)
WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
- Lead the development and implementation of Health & Safety Management Systems (HSMS), standards, and programs aligned with the company’s overall H&S strategy.
- Provide strategic H&S leadership across the organization, partnering with operational leaders and promoting accountability at all levels.
- Use safety data, trends, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify opportunities, measure performance, and drive continuous improvement.
- Lead monthly H&S performance reporting, including leading and lagging indicators, and provide clear recommendations to senior leadership.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety legislation, regulations, company standards, and industry best practices.
- Develop and oversee H&S auditing programs, ensuring findings, corrective actions, and improvement plans are followed through to completion.
- Support and oversee incident investigations, safety training, field coaching, and the implementation of corrective actions across operational sites.
- Build a strong safety culture through collaboration, training, knowledge sharing, benchmarking, and the consistent adoption of H&S best practices.
- Represent Health & Safety in leadership discussions and work closely with operational teams to drive cultural transformation, strengthen field implementation, and continuously improve safety performance.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Bachelor's degree
Additional Education Preferred: Master's degree
Field of Study Preferred: Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field.
Required Work Experience: 10–15 years of Health & Safety or industrial experience, with at least 5 years in leadership. Experience leading H&S programs, working with senior leaders, and driving safety improvements. Cement, aggregates, or construction experience is an asset.
Required Training/Certifications: Any internationally recognized H&S certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, CSP, CIH) are a plus.
Required Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of H&S regulations and standards, including OSHA, MSHA, ISO 45001, and WorkSafe. Strong analytical skills and experience using safety data, KPIs, and audits to improve safety performance.
Travel Requirements: 45%

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use H&S data to identify risks and drive improvements.
- Strong coaching, delegation, and mentoring skills, with experience leading and developing H&S professionals.
- Fluent in English; French is an asset.
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Subject to applicable law, employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
