ABOUT THE ROLE
Amrize is recruiting a Journeyperson Millwright to act as a Welding Foreman, providing hands-on leadership and supervision of all welding and fabrication activities across shop and field operations in the Calgary area. This is a permanent, full-time, hourly position. The role combines millwright mechanical expertise with strong leadership capabilities to coordinate crews, maintain equipment reliability, and ensure all welding work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with specifications and applicable standards.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
- Lead, direct, and supervise welders, fitters, and helpers in shop and field environments.
- Perform and oversee welding, fabrication, and mechanical repair work associated with millwright maintenance activities.
- Service, repair, and fabricate mechanical components including conveyors, structural supports, chutes, guards, and related equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and mechanical drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Plan, assign, and monitor daily work activities to meet maintenance and project schedules, and estimate labor and material requirements.
- Inspect completed welds and mechanical work for quality, structural integrity, and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and process-related issues and provide technical guidance to crews.
- Ensure welding and mechanical equipment, tools, and work areas are properly maintained and in safe working condition, and maintain shop and site housekeeping standards.
- Maintain accurate paper and electronic records, including work completed, parts used, labor hours, and costs, and communicate progress, constraints, and issues to management, and all other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate and promote a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental policies, leading by example and fostering a proactive safety culture.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Journeyperson Millwright certification required.
Required Work Experience: Minimum five (5) years of millwright experience in heavy industrial, manufacturing, mining, or aggregate environments, including experience performing welding and fabrication. Prior experience in a lead hand or supervisory role is considered an asset.
Required Training / Certifications: Valid driver’s license. Welding certifications (CWB preferred). Forklift, rigging, or equipment operation tickets are considered assets.
Additional Requirements:
- Strong mechanical aptitude with proven proficiency in welding, fabrication, and rigging.
- Working knowledge of welding processes (MIG, Stick, Flux Core; TIG considered an asset).
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, welding symbols, and specifications.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities focused on preventative maintenance, and actively inspects and monitors mechanical and welding equipment to minimize breakdown maintenance.
- Regularly communicates with operations, maintenance, and management to identify and resolve mechanical or process constraints.
- Self-starter capable of working independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, dependable, and accountable for decisions and outcomes.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, evenings, and in varying weather conditions as required, and ability to stand and walk for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work at heights or in confined spaces when required.
- Must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of company-approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respirators where required. Employees required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face to pass fit testing.
