ABOUT THE ROLE

 

The primary objective of this role is to manage the land and aggregate resources necessary to develop and sustain the operations in the Southern Alberta region of Amrize. Key management duties include: the targeting and acquisition of new aggregate properties, negotiation of Agreements, permitting / approval related activities, developing positive relationships with stakeholders including provincial and municipal governments, local First Nations, neighbors and communities, and effective documentation of land resources using the Land Information System (“LIS”).


WHAT THEY’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Strategic Land Acquisition & Disposition: The primary objective is to target, acquire, and divest aggregate properties to sustain operations, maximizing value for Amrize. This involves due diligence, valuation, and negotiation.
  • Permitting & Regulatory Compliance: A critical responsibility is to secure and maintain all necessary land and resource permits and approvals from various government bodies in Alberta.
    Stakeholder Relationship Management: Developing and maintaining positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders is crucial, including provincial and municipal governments, First Nations, local communities, landowners, and neighbours. This ensures smooth operations and upholds Amrize's industry leadership.
  • Agreement Negotiation & Management: The role requires leading negotiations for agreements with external third parties to develop and maintain businesses, as well as managing the leasing of Amrize land assets to maximize income and limit liabilities.
  • Land & Resource Best Practices Implementation: Ensuring compliance with existing permits and leading the business in the use of Best Practices for land and resource management, including coordinating with regional teams on reserve quantification, mining, and reclamation activities.
  • Extensive Knowledge of Regulations & Property Law: The ideal candidate must possess a deep understanding and experience interpreting rules, laws, agreements, and contracts related to property issues, real estate, building/zoning, and reclamation in Alberta.
  • Experience in Aggregate Resource Management: Significant work history (5+ years) in managing aggregate resources, roadbuilding, or municipal government is required, particularly with local land regulations and provincial/local permitting.
  • Project Management & Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to set priorities, complete multiple tasks by deadlines, and demonstrate strong independent problem-solving and analytical skills is essential for navigating complex land-related projects.
  • Communication & Community Relations: Strong written and verbal communication skills are vital, along with proven experience in community relations and giving public presentations. The role requires representing Amrize at various public and governmental functions.
  • Data & Records Management: Ensuring all land and resource documents are properly maintained, data is timely and communicated, and supporting the ongoing development of the Land Information System (LIS) are key for effective resource management.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education: University Degree / College Diploma or equivalent experience.

Field of Study Preferred: Business Administration, Commerce or equivalent

Required Work Experience: 5+ years of work experience in the management of Aggregate resources, Roadbuilding or Municipal Government, including experience in local land regulations, provincial and local permitting, property sale/purchase, due diligence and contracts.

Required Technical Skills: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Google Suite

Travel Requirements: 10% 

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Knowledge of and experience in interpreting rules, laws, agreements, and contracts related to property issues, real estate matters, building & zoning, reclamation, and associated issues.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Aggregate, Municipal Government, or Roadbuilding industry
  • Knowledge in land use/development permit principles, real estate management, water rights, geology, wetlands
  • Experience in community relations and giving public presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Experience in managing consultant services, including preparing scope of services and maintaining schedules.
  • Solid project management skills with ability to set priorities and complete multiple tasks in accordance with deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong people management and leadership skills, with a proven ability to build effective internal and external relationships and to lead and collaborate within teams.
  • Disciplined and process-oriented.
  • Strong independent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail 
  • Ability to represent Amrize at community meetings, government functions, and to local trade associations. Must be willing to occasionally work evenings to attend hearings and meetings
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
