ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the GM, Calgary & Rural SAB RMX, this position will be responsible for the daily operations of the Ready-Mix business including the promotion of the brand and products. The Operations Manager will execute and provide leadership on the strategic business model while maximizing profits and optimizing resources. As well as providing world class customer service by upholding all company commitments, policies and standards and demonstrating a strong culture of health and safety.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
- Leads the business with the utmost focus on health & safety. Proactively implements Amrize best practices, engages with all levels of employees in this regard and ensures personnel are actively seeking out real time solutions to identified risks.
- Works side by side with the business unit resources to identify strategic economic strengths, trends, weaknesses, opportunities and threats within the market area and strategically positions the business.
- Drives for continuous business performance improvement while never compromising Amrize’s commitment to providing “easy and hassle free” service to the customer.
- Maintains a collaborative relationship with other Product Lines and same product line counterparts ensuring a synergy which achieves a strategic and competitive edge for Amrize.
- Improves margins through the right combination of product, services, strategic placement and cost reduction. Assists in preparing and implementing the annual financial budgets. Ensures optimal utilization of assets. Forecasts all financial information, monthly and as required, including variance analysis. Reviews financial statements for accuracy.
- Manages the day-to-day operational activities. Directs the maintenance of all Amrize RMX operational equipment and property. Ensures maximum productive operations at minimum costs.
- Works closely with staff to develop a professional approach to managing the business. Conducts professional monthly meetings with clear agenda and priorities. Communicates company initiatives and pursues best practices. Identifies underperformance and establishes corrective actions. Recognizes and celebrates successes. Develops and motivates staff. Selects, hires, trains and terminates as required.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Undergraduate Degree. A combination of a technical/business diploma and relevant experience would be considered.
Field of Study Preferred: Construction Management, Engineering, or Business.
Required Work Experience: A minimum of 10 years of relevant and progressive experience in the ready-mix or construction business.
Required Technical Skills: Microsoft, Google Suite, SAP, Familiarity with reliability centered maintenance, AI experience an asset.
Travel Requirements: 15%, travel between RMX plants.
Additional Requirements:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and resolve conflict effectively.
- Solid working knowledge of computer programs including the Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Good organizational and planning skills.
- Strong team player with a positive attitude.
- Self-motivated with the ability to independently direct the day-to-day operations and effectively make decisions.
- Experience managing a team of union and non union employees would be considered an asset.
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
