ABOUT THE ROLE
Amrize is redefining logistics procurement for the building materials industry. With a transportation network spanning rail, road, and marine, we move essential commodities across North America. strategic goals of cost optimization, service reliability, and sustainability.


We are seeking an accomplished Director of Rail & Marine Procurement Logistics with deep expertise in rail transportation (commercial and/or pricing functions at a Class I railroad) and strong knowledge of marine transportation markets. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing strategies that reduce costs, strengthen carrier partnerships, and optimize Amrize’s national transportation footprint.

 

This role requires a strategic negotiator with executive presence who can manage senior-level relationships with Class I railroads, barge operators, and marine carriers, while also delivering compelling presentations and actionable insights to Amrize leadership. 

 

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Develop and execute rail and marine procurement strategies that drive cost savings, improve reliability, and align with Amrize’s growth objectives.
  • Design multi-year sourcing plans for Class I railroads and marine carriers, including volume commitments, index strategies, and contract structures.
  • Build a continuous improvement roadmap to ensure transportation procurement adapts to evolving market and operational needs
  • Build and maintain trusted partnerships at senior levels to strengthen Amrize’s position in negotiations.
  • Direct the use of analytics, benchmarking, and scenario modeling to evaluate rail and marine spend, service levels, and cost trade-offs.
  • Monitor market indices (fuel, CPI, freight benchmarks) to optimize commercial terms.
  • Oversee the development of executive-level presentations summarizing strategic recommendations, risks, and performance outcomes.
  • Mentor and coach team members to develop expertise in multi-modal procurement logistics.
  • Establish governance frameworks for rail and marine procurement processes.
  • Collaborate across procurement, finance, and operations to align goals and deliver enterprise-wide value.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Bachelor's degree or 10+ years of equivalent experience

Additional Education Preferred: MBA preferred
Field of Study Preferred: Supply Chain, Business, Economics, Finance, or related field.
Required Work Experience: 10+ years of experience in rail and/or marine transportation, procurement, or logistics, including direct experience in commercial and/or pricing functions at a Class I railroad.
Required Technical Skills: Microsoft Office suite
Travel Requirements: 35%

  • Proven success in negotiating and managing complex contracts with Class I railroads and marine carriers.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret large datasets and extract actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and executive presentation skills; ability to influence senior leaders internally and externally.
  • Strong sense of urgency, results orientation, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Executive presence and relationship management skills with senior railroad and marine executives
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit test.
