ABOUT THE ROLE 
The Working Foreperson / Plant Operator is a key player in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our Soil Recycling Facility located in Burnaby. This position requires precision, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety. 
The operator will manage and monitor the control systems, ensuring optimal production rates and material quality. We are seeking a dedicated and proactive individual who can contribute to our mission of delivering high quality aggregate materials.


 
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Process Control: Operate and monitor the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) based control systems to manage the flow of materials through the plant, ensuring optimal production rates and material quality.
  • System Monitoring: Continuously monitor plant parameters, including temperature, pressure, and flow rates, making real time adjustments to maintain efficient and safe operations.
  • On the Ground Support: Be available on site during plant breakdowns or equipment failures, working hands-on with the crew to support troubleshooting, repairs, and recovery efforts.
  • Data Logging: Accurately record operational data and production metrics, providing essential information for plant performance analysis and reporting.
  • Troubleshooting: Quickly diagnose and address any operational issues or system malfunctions, coordinating with maintenance teams for timely resolutions.
  • Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with ground staff and other operators to ensure coordination and operational efficiency.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
     


WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: High School Diploma or GED: Essential educational requirement, demonstrating foundational skills in mathematics, reading, and writing.
Required Training/Certifications: Completion of vocational training or certification in industrial control systems, plant operations, or a related field is highly desirable.
Technical Experience: Basic computer skills; familiarity with Excel and Word is an asset
Required Work Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar role within the aggregates or construction industry, with a strong emphasis on process control and system monitoring.
Additional Requirements:

  • Strong commitment to safety, with a safety-oriented mindset
  • Physically capable of lifting to 55 lbs. and working comfortably at heights
  • Willing and able to carry out hands on labor as needed, including assisting with equipment repairs, moving materials, replacing components, and supporting maintenance activities during breakdowns
  • Prepared to work directly on the ground with the crew during mechanical issues, start ups, shutdowns, and clean outs, including operating hand tools and performing physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions
  • Able to thrive in a fast paced, high production environment
  • Works independently with minimal supervision and collaborates well with others
  • Mechanical aptitude with strong problem-solving, decision making, and multitasking skills
  • Effective time and self management skills in both team and solo settings
  • Good verbal and written communication abilities
  • Flexible to work overtime, various shifts, and Saturdays as needed
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
