Excess Soil Field Technician
Dundas, ON, CA, L9H 5E2
Join Amrize as a Excess Soil Field Technician and help construct what's next. If you're ready to put your skills to work on projects that matter — and build a career with a company that’s building North America — we want to hear from you!
ABOUT THE ROLE
As an Excess Soil Field Technician (ESFT) at Amrize, you’re outside every day running the show on an active aggregate rehabilitation site — directing truck traffic, working hands-on with equipment operators, and keeping haulers, drivers, and crews moving safely and efficiently. This is a physical, on-your-feet role in all kinds of weather. You’ll be working directly with truck drivers, dispatchers, and construction foremen, so being confident, clear, and steady under pressure matters more than a polished resume. The site doesn’t run without you.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
- Safety: Run the Amrize Daily Sign-In, complete vehicle safety checks, and lead daily Toolbox Talks. You set the tone for a safe site every single day.
- Dynamic Project Coordination: Take charge of the flow of haulers, contractors, and heavy equipment on-site. This is hands-on coordination — you’re out where the work happens, not behind a desk.
- Environmental Excellence: Act as the frontline defender of the environment. You will implement and enforce rigorous site-level controls to prevent adverse impacts, ensuring our rehabilitation efforts leave a positive legacy.
- Digital: Use our digital tracking system (SoilFlo) to log loads and report on progress. No tech background needed — we’ll train you on it.
- Start-of-Day Readiness: Strategize with the Site Supervisor and Dozer Operators to map out the day’s traffic flow and dumping priorities.
- Digital Ticketing & Logistics: Master SoilFlo to manage inbound loads, verify origins and haulers, troubleshoot missing tickets, and execute contingency plans during high-volume "Long-Line" emergencies.
- Directing Traffic and Trucks: Direct heavy machinery and trucks with clear hand signals and confident communication, and coach drivers on site rules.
- Patrol, Inspection & Sampling: Patrol the site to enforce compliance, log warnings in SoilFlo, complete "Adequacy Checks", and execute technical sampling and stockpiling according to SOPs.
- Expert Flagging & Safety: Guide drivers to the dumping edge, identify soft spots or unsafe conditions, and coordinate closely with bulldozer operators.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviours.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Education: Post-secondary education in Environmental Technology, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Required Work Experience: 1–2 years working on an active construction, aggregate/quarry, mining, or trucking/logistics site — you know what it’s like to work outdoors in all weather and navigate a busy industrial site.
- Required Training/Certifications: Valid Standard First Aid & CPR certification is preferred. Knowledge of Provincial Health & Safety Acts and specific "Excess Soil" regulations (such as Ontario’s O. Reg. 406/19) is a plus.
- Travel Requirements: Time split between the following three locations: Dundas (628 ON-5, Dundas); Fonthill (1540 Park Street, Pelham); Hagersville (4024 Hwy 6, Hagersville); other satellite sites in the area on an as needed basis.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
- A valid Class G Driver’s License is required to operate site vehicles.
- Working outside in all weather, on your feet most of the shift.
- Learning our digital tools on the job — training provided, no tech background needed.
- Holding your ground with truck drivers and site crews — communicating clearly and confidently, even when people are in a hurry or frustrated.
