ABOUT THE ROLE 
The Health & Safety Coordinator will help to support the regional Health & Safety Manager and regional business team in implementation of health and safety management systems and processes. In this role, you will provide health and safety guidance to the operations to help the region comply with Amrize Standards, Country level policies, and jurisdictional regulations. Serving as a strategic business partner, you will provide technical subject matter expertise and guidance on hazard recognition and risk mitigation controls through active engagement with front line leaders and workers. This role works out of our Edmonton Ellwood office and is a one-year contract position, with the potential to be extended or shortened based on project needs and availability.

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Provide direct health and safety coaching to the operational site level leadership, and safety committee representatives and embedded safety personnel.
  • Assist with facilitation and coordination of training including annual startups, supervisor seminars, Visual Personal Commitment, iSite program (Time in the field Program), etc.
  • Perform risk assessments and develop safe work procedures for regional and country purposes, and provide guidance and support to operations to meet OHS and company expectations.
  • Assist with serious incident investigations including recordable injuries, near misses, critical incidents, and help the company comply with OHS inspections and potential orders.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct annual COR audits, support regional operations in preparation for company Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) audits, develop action plans for continuous improvement, and participate in North America HSE audits identifying compliance gaps against company health and safety standards.
  • Support HS Manager and regional operations in development and implementation of H&S priorities, guidance documents, key lessons learned, best practices, policies, and assist in implementation of both country and regional (improvement plan) HSE-IP objectives.
  • Support and guide regional operations in claim management and injury prevention, and assist with utilization of internal reporting tools to meet country reporting requirements.
  • Support regional operations in implementation and maintenance of programs such as SiteDocs, iCare, Avetta, etc.
  • Assist in developing and sharing regional communications to all stakeholders including key lessons, best practices, safety alerts, and KPIs.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree.
Field of Study Preferred:  Occupational Health & Safety.
Required Work Experience: 3-5 years working experience as a health & safety professional, preferably in the construction industry.
Required Training/Certifications: CSO/NCSO, COR auditor certification, CRSP preferred (or eligible).
Required Technical Skills: MS Office, Google Suite.
Travel Requirements: approximately 15% travel outside of the local area.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Excellent ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of relevant Provincial regulations.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to travel within North America.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
