ABOUT THE ROLE
The Industrial Controls & Field Implementation Specialist is a hands-on technical role responsible for accelerating the deployment of industrial systems across ACM operations in Western Canada. This role bridges field instrumentation, controls, PLC-related systems, vendor technologies, and internal IoTA solutions to convert operational needs into practical, scalable implementations. The position works closely with site operations, maintenance teams, vendors, and the Tech Lead – IoT Systems to support discovery, design, commissioning, troubleshooting, and standardization of industrial technologies. Success in this role means delivering reliable site implementations, improving visibility into operations, and building repeatable technical approaches that can scale across RMX, Aggregates, Asphalt, Pipe, and other ACM businesses.

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Lead field implementation of instrumentation, controls, and industrial system solutions that improve operational visibility, reliability, and decision-making across ACM sites.
  • Support PLC- and equipment-adjacent integration work by translating field requirements into practical field execution plans, commissioning activities, and data connectivity solutions.
  • Partner with the Tech Lead – IoT Systems to connect sensors, gateways, controls, and vendor platforms into IoTA and related internal applications.
  • Identify, scope, and execute opportunities to modernize legacy manual or vendor-dependent processes using repeatable industrial technology solutions.
  • Work directly with site teams, maintenance personnel, and vendors to troubleshoot field issues, validate installations, and improve implementation quality.
  • Develop site-ready standards, documentation, and deployment approaches for instrumentation, controls, telemetry, and industrial systems implementations.
  • Contribute practical operational knowledge across multiple businesses including RMX, Aggregates, Asphalt, Pipe, and other ACM operating environments.
  • Strengthen ACM’s internal capability to assess, challenge, and implement vendor solutions with less reliance on external integrators.
  • Support cross-functional project execution by coordinating technical details, site readiness, vendor scope, and implementation follow-through.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

Required Training/Certifications: Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to operating sites. Safety training applicable to industrial sites. PLC/platform-specific vendor training (for example Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, Emerson/Rosemount) is an asset.
Required Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of instrumentation and controls systems; working knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, panels, relays, VFDs, motor controls, field I/O, and industrial sensors; ability to read P&IDs, loop drawings, control schematics, and panel drawings; familiarity with industrial communications such as Modbus TCP/RTU and Ethernet/IP; understanding of telemetry, SCADA/HMI, gateways, edge devices, and industrial networking basics; proficiency with Microsoft Office. Experience with cloud-connected industrial data solutions, ThingsBoard, IoT gateways, scripting/configuration, or basic data integration is an asset.
Travel Requirements: Estimated 25–40% travel within Western Canada depending on project phase; regular day travel and periodic overnight travel to operating sites.
