Process Safety Management Director
Houston, TX, US, 77066
Join Amrize as a Process Safety Management Director and help construct what's next. If you're ready to put your skills to work on projects that matter — and build a career with a company that’s building North America — we want to hear from you!
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Director, Process Safety Management (PSM) will provide strategic leadership, oversight, and governance for all PSM and risk management plan (RMP) activities across the Amrize enterprise. Operating within the HSES Department and reporting directly to the VP, Health, Safety, Environment and Security (HSES), this role is responsible for driving a systematic approach to address risk identification, governance, compliance, mitigation and management of process safety solutions.
The Director will design, standardize, and enforce robust management system frameworks for a highly complex industrial footprint—encompassing heavy manufacturing assets, alternative fuels processing, and chemical-intensive operations where fire, deflagration, and chemical containment risks are high. Functionally partnering with Business Unit and Enterprise HSE staff, Regional Teams, and Engineering, the Director will institutionalize a rigorous, data-driven approach to hazard identification, fire risk mitigation, and continuous regulatory compliance.
WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
- Enterprise Leadership & Strategy: Develop and execute a unified, risk-based PSM and RMP and industrial fire safety governance framework across all Amrize business units.
- Advanced Hazard Analysis: Direct and facilitate high-level Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) using industry-standard methodologies, including HAZOP, What-If, and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
- Fire & Explosion Protection Governance: Oversee corporate compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, including codes for flammable liquids (NFPA 30), combustible dusts (NFPA 660), and hazardous area classifications.
- Regulatory & Compliance Governance: Ensure full compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management (29 CFR 1910.119), EPA Risk Management Plans (RMP), and relevant state and local environmental, safety, and fire regulations.
- Change & Risk Management: Oversee corporate Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) to identify, assess, and neutralize chemical, thermal, and fire risks during process modifications or capital expansions.
- Asset Integrity & Loss Prevention: Partner with Engineering and Maintenance teams to optimize mechanical integrity programs for critical safety-instrumented systems (SIS), toxic/combustible gas detection networks, and automated fire suppression/deluge systems.
- Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis: Lead complex, high-consequence process safety and fire/explosion incident investigations, utilizing advanced Root Cause Analysis (RCA) techniques to issue corrective and preventive actions.
- Capital Project and Due Diligence Review: Serve as the final Subject Matter Expert (SME) on capital deployment and acquisitions, reviewing engineering designs, alternative fuels handling protocols, and chemical manufacturing expansions for safe design.
- Emergency Response Integration: Align facility emergency response plans and pre-fire planning with local fire departments and corporate crisis teams to ensure readiness for high-consequence chemical or thermal events.
- Culture & Capacity Building: Train, coach and mentor engineers, plant managers, HSE leaders and frontline technicians, championing a proactive "safety-first" operational culture.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
