ABOUT THE ROLE 
The Construction & Asphalt Manager, Prince George has direct responsibility and accountability for the safety and operational performance of the operations in Prince George.  The Manager plays a key role in executing safety policies, performance plans, cost savings, KPI targets, managing equipment fleet, and working with staff to ensure projects are completed safely, on budget, no deficiencies, and customer satisfaction.  In addition to operations management activities, the Manager may be required to undertake Project Management duties for the execution of paving projects.


This Manager is integral in developing the capacity of the organization to increase construction revenue and organizational capability.  This includes coaching and mentoring direct reports and continually promoting a culture of agility, collaboration and empowerment enabling continuous improvement. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas. Promotes a positive safety culture through leadership by example.
  • Develop and update annual budgets, forecasts, objectives and capital expenditure plans. Develop and implement strategic plans and reviews.
  • Set up short- and long-term plans to ensure the planned growth of the division and remain compatible with all other market forces and competitors. 
  • Financial review of monthly statements; approval of purchasing; work with business unit accountant and staff on accounts receivable; management of working Capital.
  • Management of Human Resources including hiring and dismissal; promotion; training & development; negotiate and manage labour contracts; maintain and encourage positive relationships between management, employees and the union; promote and foster teamwork; implement, monitor and enforce compliance with company safety and environmental programs.
  • Manage equipment fleet to effectively utilize keeping costs to minimum while being efficient.
  • Developing a stretch budget and working to achieve the key objectives and metrics outlined in the budget or other goal setting activities.
  • Establishes the environment as a priority.  Ensures all local and provincial and federal regulations are met or exceeded by following Amrize's best practices and conditions of site permits and ensure crews have been orientated and trained in environmental responsibilities.
  • Sales, negotiations and customer relations.
  • Maintain and develop new market opportunities.
  • Direct Reports: 2 Superintendents, 2 Foremen, 1 Estimators, 2 QC Technicians. Indirect Reports: 25+ Unionized employees
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: University Degree, Technical Diploma, or equivalent field experience.  
Field of Study Preferred: Business, Construction Management, or related field. 
Required Work Experience: Minimum of 10 years of management experience. Minimum of 5 years of field experience. 
Required Technical Skills: Microsoft Suite and Google Suite.
Travel Requirements: 10%

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
