ABOUT THE ROLE

The Quality Engineer-In-Training’s prime objective is to support and assist in the implementation of all activities related to quality control of incoming raw materials, in process materials, and finished products.  These activities include but are not limited to chemical and physical testing of all products, troubleshooting of equipment and processes, and participation in implementation of quality related projects. The Quality EIT spends time in the field to gain understanding on the various processes that are influencing the quality of material at each stage of control, and is able to assist and recommend action to improve the system. The Quality EIT reports to the Quality Manager directly and assists in Quality improvement projects in the plant.


WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Ensure accurate and reliable laboratory equipment performance by assisting with calibration, troubleshooting issues, and verifying alignment with internal and external calibration plans.
  • Maintain and analyze trends from daily, weekly, and monthly standard checks to support data integrity and continuous improvement.
  • Enhance team capability by assisting in the training of production lab operators.
  • Participate in daily process meetings, conduct routine field inspections, and collaborate with production teams to proactively address issues and ensure uniformity and quality of in-process materials.
  • Maintain an up-to-date SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and support safe chemical handling.
  • Conduct Hazard Assessments and Field-Level Risk Assessments to proactively identify and mitigate safety risks in the workplace.
  • Conduct and participate in the Root Cause Analysis program. 
  • Ensure that all quality activities and initiatives meet environmental regulatory requirements. 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of trial plans related to Alternative Raw materials, Alternative Fuels, and cement improvement projects. 
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.


WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Field of Study Preferred: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline
Required Work Experience: previous experience in an industrial setting, preferably in the cement industry

Required Training/Certifications: Registered EIT or eligible for registration as an EIT with EGBC

Travel Requirements: 5%

 

Additional Requirements: 

  • Knowledgeable on ASTM, CSA, and AASHTO 
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office suite) 
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working in a team environment. 
  • Highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.  
  • Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to perform under pressure.  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact with plant personnel.  
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving organizational and personal goals.  
  • Familiar with best laboratory practices (SDS, WHMIS, PPE, COC, etc.). 
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
