ABOUT THE ROLE

A Tool & Die Maker is a highly skilled artisan in the manufacturing industry who creates precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and molds used in metal stamping, forging, and molding operations.

 

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

Interpret engineering blueprints to craft, assemble, and repair specialized equipment, often to tolerances measured in ten-thousandths of an inch.

  • Design & Interpretation: Analyze blueprints, CAD drawings, and specifications to plan production processes.
  • Precision Machining: Set up and operate manual and Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines, including lathes, mills, grinders, and drill presses.
  • Fabrication & Assembly: Cut, shape, file, and assemble metal parts to create or repair dies, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Testing & Troubleshooting: Conduct trial runs to ensure tools meet quality standards, adjusting and polishing parts to ensure proper alignment and function.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and repair on existing tools, dies, and molds to minimize production downtime.
  • Inspection: Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to verify dimensions
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education: A high school diploma is standard, typically paired with a formal apprenticeship or technical degree (journeyman status)
Required Work Experience: 3–5 years of hands-on experience in tool and die making or a similar role.

  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of metalworking, machine tool operation, and CAD/CAM software.
  • Mathematical Aptitude: Strong skills in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and precision, focusing on fine detail to prevent defects.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues on the production floor.
  • Physical Strength: Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50–75 lbs) and stand for long periods.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
