ABOUT THE ROLE
The incumbent is responsible for performing laboratory tests as assigned by the Lab Supervisor. Testing must be done with accuracy and precision. The Concrete Lab Technician must be familiar with a wide variety of test procedures such as batching concrete mixtures, determining concrete compressive strength, concrete air content, slump, set time, unit weight, yield, aggregate gradation, aggregate specific gravity, aggregate absorption, and aggregate loss by wash. From time to time, new test procedures must be learned and used under the direction of the Lab Supervisor. The incumbent assists the Lab Supervisor in maintaining lab property and equipment. The candidate must also be familiar with routine repair techniques for various pieces of lab equipment..

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Carry out testing of cement, fly ash, and other cementitious materials in concrete.
  • Know and understand all pertinent concrete testing procedures (ASTM, ACI, DOT, AASHTO, etc.)
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy of data, timely completion of assignments, clear and concise reporting.
  • Support Concrete Lab Supervisor in the testing of samples for the monthly Lafarge Cement consistency program.
  • Support Concrete Lab Supervisor in the testing of the Competitive Testing Program Samples.
  • Support Concrete Lab Supervisor in the testing investigations assigned by the Sales and Marketing department.
  • Assist Concrete Lab Supervisor in maintenance and calibration of equipment and upkeep of the lab.
  • Assist Concrete Lab Supervisor with maintaining filing and reporting systems.
  • Assist with fostering cooperation among a diverse workforce to improve our customer orientation.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Minimum High School Diploma.
Additional Education Preferred:Technical training or certifications related to construction materials testing.
Field of Study Preferred:Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Required Work Experience: Minimal industry exposure, specifically in concrete and materials testing following ASTM, ACI, DOT, or AASHTO standards.
Required Training/Certifications: ACI Certifications in Field Testing, Strength Testing, and Lab Technician Level One.
Required Technical Skills:Familiarity with lab testing procedures, basic equipment maintenance, and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.); Notes knowledge is an asset.
Travel Requirements: Minimal.

Additional Requirements:

  • Run trial mixes in support of Customer Value propositions.
  • Evaluate customer materials for industry specification compliance.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and reporting.
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and standards consistently.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Capable of working independently and within a team.
  • Willingness to learn new test procedures and adapt to evolving lab practices.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
