ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Plant Supervisor Intern to support management in overseeing multi-shift operations across underground and surface mine sites. This role assists in coordinating union personnel, mine engineers, and plant support staff to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operations. The intern helps direct daily mining, processing, and maintenance activities; supports planning, staffing, and supervision; and ensures a consistent supply of primary surge stone for first-shift secondary aggregate production.
This internship serves as an entry-level, required position for those pursuing a field leadership or project management role within the company. It provides foundational experience in plant operations, and employee
supervision.
This internship will be based in South Elgin, IL.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Demonstrate a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental policies across all work areas

Partner with Plant Manager and Supervisor to support production planning, scheduling, and execution, including scaling, drilling, primary production coordination, maintenance, and KPI initiatives

Gain hands-on experience supporting daily workforce oversight, ensuring employees are on time, engaged, and compliant with MSHA and other regulatory requirements

Assist with supervisory responsibilities for production and maintenance, including training support, performance evaluation, corrective actions, and work scheduling

Learn production scheduling processes and assist in estimating labor and worker-hour requirements

Collaborate with support teams to help resolve production issues and assist with troubleshooting

Assist with inspections of plant equipment and completed work to ensure compliance with safety standards, policies, and local, state, and federal regulations

Help complete production and KPI reports, process flow documentation, shift reports, logs, and incident reports

Work alongside experienced Plant Managers and Supervisors to develop leadership and people-management skills

Travel approximately 50% to local plant locations
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for enthusiastic students who meet the following criteria:

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program majoring in Mine Engineering, Production, Maintenance, and /or Business Management.

Strong academic performance with a solid understanding of engineering principles.

Geographic flexibility to work at various sites - 50% travel

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Decision-maker that incorporates common business sense into the decision-making process.

A team player who can collaborate across different levels of the organization.

Willingness to spend significant time in the field, gaining hands-on experience and firsthand knowledge of our business operations.
SCHEDULE AND ENVIRONMENT

Work Schedule:This is an onsite role with a mandatory 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, working an 8-hour shift each day.

Work Environment: You’ll be working in various aggregate environments (i.e. quarry, sand/gravel site, surface mine, construction site), where you’ll encounter moving mechanical equipment, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, and more.

Transportation: Interns are responsible for their own transportation to and from their worksites.

Travel: Throughout the internship, you may need to travel to other sites for tours, shadowing experiences, or intern events.
