ABOUT THE ROLE
The primary responsibility of the Stouffville Excess Soil Supervisor (SESS) is to ensure that Excess Soil projects in Stouffville run safely, smoothly and in compliance with Amrize requirements. The SESS will be responsible for training new employees, enforcing onsite requirements, tracking project progress, ensuring regulatory compliance and communicating project updates.
This role relies on a broad scope of competencies including:
- People Development and Accountability;
- Project & contractor coordination;
- Risk & compliance management; and
The SESS consistently contributes to ensure excellence in safety, operations, regulatory compliance, sustainability, customer service and supplier/contractor relationship management.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
- Safety Leadership: You will cultivate a “zero-incident” culture, ensuring every employee and contractor returns home safely by enforcing rigorous health and safety protocols.

- Operational Excellence: You will ensure all projects run smoothly, on time, and within budget, directly impacting the profitability and reputation of the Stouffville site. You will transform contractor relationships into high-performing partnerships, ensuring that equipment utilization (bulldozers, sweepers, water trucks) is maximized and downtime is eliminated
- Environmental Stewardship: You will safeguard the local environment by ensuring 100% compliance with provincial regulations and Amrize-wide standards.
- Stakeholder Satisfaction: You will serve as a key point of contact, building strong relationships with customers, haulers, and internal management through transparent reporting and professional communication.
- Team Development: You will empower the workforce by training new hires and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: An undergraduate degree in business or engineering technology, or significant
industry experience.
Project & Contractor Coordination:
- Kick-off & Communication: Lead project start-up by communicating Amrize
protocols, site circulation rules, and hauler requirements to new customers.
- Resource Management: Coordinate internal resources and third-party contractors;
manage equipment requirements (e.g., bulldozers, sweepers, water trucks) based
on daily demand.
- Operational Control: Implement and enforce controls to prevent H&S hazards and environmental impacts; identify when changes in the scope of work require updated safety measures.
- Visitor Management: Oversee site visitor access in strict accordance with company policy.
Safety & Compliance:
- Culture Building: Conduct morning safety huddles and engage daily with H&S teams and subcontractors to promote safety initiatives.
- Compliance Monitoring: Ensure all haulers and contractors follow Amrize H&S Guidelines, issuing formal notifications in instances of non-compliance.
- Regulatory Oversight: Enforce project-level compliance with provincial soil standards and prevent any adverse environmental effects.
Administration & Reporting:
- Digital Tracking: Utilize tools such as SoilFlo and JotForm to track project progress and ensure accurate ticket entry (SoilFlo to Apex).
- Soil Accounting: Verify that all soil sampling is completed according to the Amrize Excess Soil Protocol.
- Financial Oversight: Track and manage spend against the budget, manage invoices for sampling/services, and report regularly on project costs.
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Daily Scheduling: Work closely with the Operations Supervisor to align site requirements with daily schedules.
- Staff Training: Lead the onboarding and training of new employees, reinforcing safety and operational awareness.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
