ABOUT THE ROLE
As an Excess Soil Field Technician (ESFT) at Amrize, you are the boots-on-the-ground leader of our pit rehabilitation project. This isn't just about moving earth—it’s about restoration. The ESFT will be responsible for coordinating pit rehabilitation projects which includes tracking project progress, managing day-to-day operations, and upholding environmental and health and safety requirements.

- Dynamic Project Coordination: Take the wheel of rehabilitation site work. From overseeing precision unloading to mastering digital manifest tools, you’ll manage haulers, contractors, and internal resources to keep the project moving like clockwork.
- Environmental Excellence: Act as the frontline defender of the environment. You will implement and enforce rigorous site-level controls to prevent adverse impacts, ensuring our rehabilitation efforts leave a positive legacy.
- Digital Mastery: Ditch the messy paperwork. You’ll use cutting-edge digital platforms to track project progress, manage costs, and provide real-time reporting on operational health.
RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS
- Start-of-Day Readiness:
- Kick off the day with the Amrize Daily Sign-In and comprehensive vehicle safety checks.
- Gear up with PPE and stay sharp with daily Toolbox Talks and safety briefings.
- Strategize with the Site Supervisor and Dozer Operators to map out the day’s traffic flow and dumping priorities.
- Digital Ticketing & Logistics:
- Master our tech stack (SoilFlo and Path) to manage inbound loads with speed and accuracy.
- Engage with drivers to verify origins and haulers, ensuring every cubic meter of soil is accounted for.
- Troubleshoot missing tickets on the fly by communicating directly with dispatchers to keep the line moving.
- Execute contingency plans during high-volume "Long-Line" emergencies to maintain site efficiency.
- Precision Marshalling
- Direct the flow of heavy machinery with professional poise, ensuring drivers follow site circulation plans to the letter.
- Coach drivers on site etiquette—from straight reversing to "box down" exits—to prevent hazards and tailgate noise.
- Keep the "Ticketer" and "Flagger" in sync to maintain a seamless, safe rhythm of operations.
- Patrol, Inspection & Sampling:
- Conduct proactive site patrols to enforce speed limits and stop-sign compliance, ensuring we don't disrupt aggregate production.
- Utilize SoilFlo to log digital warnings and maintain a high standard of driver accountability.
- Perform "Adequacy Checks" throughout the day with photo documentation of the dump areas and access roads.
- Execute technical sampling and stockpiling according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to guarantee soil quality.
- Expert Flagging & Safety
- Use professional hand signals to guide drivers to the dumping edge with surgical precision.
- Protect our team and equipment by identifying soft spots, tension cracks, or unsafe conditions before they become issues.
- Maintain a strict safety buffer from the dumping edge and coordinate closely with dozer operators to manage ruts and site grade.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Post-secondary education in Environmental Technology, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. A strong understanding of soil mechanics or aggregate operations is a significant plus
Required Work Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a construction, mining, or environmental field role. You’re comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and navigating active heavy-industrial sites
Required Training/Certifications: Valid Standard First Aid & CPR certification is preferred. Knowledge of Provincial Health & Safety Acts and specific "Excess Soil" regulations (such as Ontario’s O. Reg. 406/19) is highly preferred.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
- A valid Class G Driver’s License is required to operate site vehicles
