ABOUT THE ROLE
The RMX Plant Supervisor – Portage la Prairie is a hands-on role responsible for:
- Batching and loading concrete to specification
- Operating and loading the plant and yard (including loader, as needed)
- Coordinating routine plant maintenance and managing contractors
- Dealing directly with customers, accepting orders, and dispatching trucks
This position is the central hub for the Portage la Prairie ready-mix operation, ensuring safe production, on-time deliveries, quality concrete, and strong customer service.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
Operate the batching system to produce concrete and load trucks safely and efficiently in accordance with mix designs and customer requirements.
Plan and sequence daily production and truck dispatch to meet customer schedules and minimize plant and site wait times.
Act as a primary local contact for customers, taking orders, confirming job details, and proactively communicating delays or changes.
Operate and oversee yard equipment (including the loader) to feed bins, manage stockpiles, and maintain safe and efficient yard traffic flow.
Monitor raw material levels (cement, fly ash, aggregates, admixtures, fuel) and coordinate deliveries to ensure uninterrupted production.
Perform routine plant inspections and basic maintenance, and identify issues requiring escalation to Maintenance.
Coordinate and oversee on-site contractors (mechanical, electrical, etc.) to ensure work is completed safely and with minimal disruption to operations.
Work with Quality Control to troubleshoot and resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions.
Complete required production, dispatch, inventory, and maintenance documentation in company systems and share key information with Operations, Dispatch, QC, and Maintenance.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Required Work Experience: 3+ years in a ready-mix or industrial production environment.
Required Training/Certifications: Valid Class 5 driver’s licence required; Class 3/1 with air brakes is an asset.Technical or trades training (construction, mechanical/industrial, civil) is an asset. Experience batching concrete and/or dispatching trucks is a strong asset.
Required Technical Experience: Basic computer skills: MS Office (Excel, Outlook) and production/dispatch software (training provided).
Additional Requirements:
- Clear, professional communication skills with customers, drivers, and internal teams.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Willingness to work occasional extended hours or Saturdays to meet production demands.
- Experience operating a loader or similar heavy equipment preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle orders, dispatching, and plant operations in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience dealing directly with customers on orders and scheduling is preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude with a problem-solving mindset and ability to make decisions under time pressure while working around plant and mobile equipment.
- Managing & Measuring Work using KPIs through a Continuous Improvement / Structured Approach.
- Leading People through frontline influence with a Collaborative Approach.
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
