Position Overview
The Shipping and Receiving Supervisor oversees all inbound and outbound logistics
operations, ensuring efficient, accurate, and timely processing of materials, products,
and shipments. This role requires strong leadership skills to manage warehouse staff
while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management:
-Supervise daily shipping and receiving activities, including freight deliveries,
order fulfillment, and inventory management
-Coordinate with carriers, vendors, and internal departments to optimize delivery
schedules and resolve logistics issues
-Ensure accurate documentation of all incoming and outgoing shipments,
including bills of lading, packing slips, and delivery receipts
-Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with purchasing and production teams to
maintain optimal stock levels
-Implement and maintain efficient warehouse layout and workflow processes
Team Leadership
-Lead, train, and evaluate shipping and receiving staff, including warehouse
associates, forklift operators, and dock workers
-Schedule staff assignments and manage labor allocation to meet daily
operational demands
-Conduct regular safety meetings and enforce compliance with OSHA regulations
and company safety policies
-Foster a positive work environment focused on teamwork, accountability, and
continuous improvement
Quality Control and Compliance:
-Inspect incoming materials for quality, quantity, and compliance with purchase
orders and specifications
-Verify outgoing shipments for accuracy, proper packaging, and adherence to
customer requirements
-Maintain compliance with DOT regulations, hazardous materials handling
procedures, and shipping documentation requirements
-Investigate and resolve discrepancies, damages, or customer complaints related
to shipping and receiving operations
Systems and Reporting:
-Familiarity with Uber Freight or other load tendering tools
-Generate daily, weekly, and monthly reports on shipping performance, receiving
accuracy, and operational metrics
-Analyze data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for cost reduction
and process improvement
-Maintain accurate records for audit purposes and regulatory compliance
Required Qualifications
Education and Experience:
-High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in logistics,
supply chain management, or related field preferred
-Minimum 3-5 years of experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations
-At least 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience
-Experience with warehouse management systems and inventory control software
Technical Skills:
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data analysis and
reporting
-Knowledge of shipping regulations, including DOT, IATA, and international trade
requirements
-Familiarity with various shipping methods, carrier services, and freight
classification systems
-Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement
methodologies
