ABOUT THE ROLE

The primary responsibility of the Relief Production Supervisor’s role is the supervision and direction over an area of production within a slag plant reporting to the Operations Manager in East Chicago, IN.  When not in the Relief Supervisor’s role, they will support the needs of the Operations Manager in regards to Safety, troubleshooting processes, reporting, training, etc, reporting to the Plant Manager. 

 

Position Location:  Amrize Slag Plant is onsite the Cleveland-Cliffs Steel Plant in East Chicago, Indiana.  

 

Position Shift:  The Relief Production Supervisor works day shift.  They work rotational shifts to provide relief for staff vacations and PTO time. The rotational shifts this position will cover are 12 hour shifts, with 4 days on and 4 days off (Monday through Sunday, all calendar days), shift hours are 6:00 - 6:00.

 

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH 

  • Review operational control policies and procedures, update to current standard and communicate with affected departments and employees.
  • Monitor all process operations to maximize production rates while meeting quality targets.
  • Supervise 3rd party service including refractory removal and installation, mechanical or electrical maintenance as needed.
  • Manage process materials in accordance with work instruction including but not limited to raw materials, fuels, semi and finished products, and any waste stream.
  • Identify, isolate and report any deviation from internal product specification.
  • Manage equipment failure and process upset conditions to minimize cost and downtime.
  • Ensure kiln and mill operation is in compliance with government and company safety standards .
  • Ensure the regular inspection and evaluation of all operating equipment to maintain production requirements
  • Provide health & safety expertise and support to site management and supervisors for the management of H&S.
  • Support and challenge the line in defining and prioritizing the actions to implement long term country and site H&S strategy.
  • Use and provide health & safety knowledge and experience to help site drive behavioral changes in the business to reduce incidents and become an industry world reference in H&S.
  • Will work with Operations Managers in both plants for the purpose of performing his/her job. This includes but is not limited to learning the process, quality and production needs of both plants and being able to step up into those positions when needed.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Required Education:  Bachelor's/Undergraduate Degree or 5 - 7 years of production experience in lieu of a degree  

Field of Study Preferred:  Science or Engineering

Required Work Experience:   1-3 years Required

Travel Requirements:   Minimal

 

Additional Requirements:

  • OSHA experience (preferred)
  • The position requires knowledge of business operating processes, procedures, and working knowledge of federal/state legislation per OHSA.
  • Ability to use independent judgment in supervising personnel and in making decisions that can affect the overall operation of the plant
  • Solid coaching skills
  • 0-3 years cement production and/or kiln experience
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred but not required.
  • Intermediate computer skills using Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong understanding of financials and performance metrics
  • Strong knowledge of and understanding related to company products, processes and equipment
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
