ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Cement Kiln Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment and systems within the cement plant. This role supports the cement manufacturing process by monitoring plant operations, performing inspections, making process adjustments, and ensuring quality standards are met. The Cement Kiln Operator plays a key role in maintaining production efficiency and reliability while upholding Lafarge’s high standards of safety and environmental stewardship.

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Operate and monitor cement plant equipment, including crushers, mills, kilns, preheaters, coolers, and material handling systems to ensure optimal production.

  • Perform routine field inspections of process equipment and systems to identify any potential issues and ensure proper operating conditions.

  • Monitor and adjust control system parameters to maintain efficient production rates and product quality.

  • Perform minor maintenance tasks, including lubrication, filter changes, and cleaning, as required to keep equipment in good working order.

  • Collaborate with maintenance and control room personnel to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues to minimize downtime.

  • Accurately record production data, logbook entries, and report any process deviations or safety concerns to supervision.

  • Ensure the consistent quality of raw meal and clinker by following standard operating procedures and quality protocols.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to housekeeping standards across the plant.

  • Participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and proactive safety programs to foster a strong safety culture.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Additional Education Preferred: Power Engineering - Class 4, Technical diploma or training in Process Operations, Industrial Operations. 

Required Work Experience: Valid certifications or training in confined space, fall protection, lockout/tagout, and other safety protocols as required

Preferred Training/Certifications: Valid certifications or training in confined space, fall protection, lockout/tagout, and other safety protocols as required

Required Technical Skills: Strong understanding of process operations, including control systems (DCS), equipment operation, and troubleshooting in a cement or heavy industrial plant environment

 

Additional Requirements:  

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and basic maintenance skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

  • Physically fit and capable of performing labor-intensive tasks, including lifting up to 55 lbs

  • Comfortable working in varying environmental conditions, including heat, dust, and at heights

  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and overtime as required

  • Computer literacy, including basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, is an asset

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
