ABOUT THE ROLE

 

Working in a team environment the Quarry and Mining Specialist will provide technical leadership and support to the quarry and plant team to implement the Quarry Expansion Project as well as to support day to day operation of a 2.4 mtpa fixed plant.

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH                                                                                                                                                    

  • Ensure the safe and efficient extraction of limestone, black shale, and sandstone for production of prehomo through accurate and detailed mine plans and designs. 
  • Interface with contract mining companies with respect to quarry projects, drill and blast, haul road maintenance, Back Mountain project, and any other priorities.  
  • Perform survey activities for collection of blasthole location data, as well as design lay-out in the field for construction.
  • Perform field inspections of the quarries and the crushing system looking for efficiencies, maintenance items, and safety hazards.
  • Assist with selection of appropriate mobile and fixed mining equipment to meet the plants current and future needs.
  • Design haul roads, mine dewatering systems, blasts, dumps, and any other quarry structures.
  • Guarantee the functionality and reliability of the mining and light duty fleet of mobile equipment for plant operations through supervision of heavy-duty mechanics in the garage.
  • Plan and execute preventative maintenance on mobile equipment. This includes: ordering and procuring parts, oils, and other fluids; Develop and maintain a critical spare parts list; React to any unforeseen breakdowns with urgency; Managing contractor technicians as needed as well.
  • Perform shift coverage for Quarry Supervision as needed to cover any vacation, training, or any leaves of absence.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Additional Education Preferred:
Field of Study Preferred:
Mining Engineering
Required Work Experience:
Minimum of 3 years experience managing engineering technical services and support, preferably in direct or related mining field

Required Training/Certifications: Valid Driver’s License

Required Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, QSO, Quarry Master, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Travel Requirements: 5%

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Knowledge of mining methods and appropriate planning techniques.
  • General knowledge of geology
  • Ability to learn and utilize appropriate Mine Planning software
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with provincial, and governmental regulations as well as material specifications.
  • Previous experience in an open pit Quarry or Mine
  • Previous experience with fixed plant crushing operations
  • Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to all weather conditions, extreme heat, and dust in certain areas of the plant.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
