ABOUT THE ROLE
The Assistant Terminal Manager is an individual contributor role works as a “manager in training” providing support to the management team, while still being involved in daily operations. 

 

The candidate will need to have strong mechanical skills to successful assist in maintaining mechanical and electrical systems. This person must be able to operate heavy machinery and have the ability to assist the operators with running the terminal and facility. This is a physically demanding position, in a fast paced environment; this terminal receives material, bags and distributes building materials via ships, barges, rail and trucks.

 

The candidate will also need the desire and willingness to develop supervisory/managerial skills, by getting involved in leading the cement terminal. This person will also assist the Terminal Manager to oversee the terminal and systems that support this operation, this role requires a candidate who is highly organized with the ability to monitor and troubleshoot
various processes simultaneously, while maintaining the highest standard of quality and safety in all areas of operation and environmental compliance.

 

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

  • This position works as a “manager in training’ learning the operational responsibilities and assuming additional responsibility.
  • When there is no manager present, this position acts as the “Lead” employee for the facility and influences the direction of work among team members.
  • May be asked to take on or participate in projects to support the terminal in process improvement, related to safety and or other related areas.
  • Ensure strict environmental standards are complied with and communicated to all terminal employees and maintain all necessary permits
  • Lead all aspects of terminal operations in absence of the Terminal Manager.
  • Assist the Manager in the planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing of all practices related to accurate and timely rail and truck ordering; schedule and coordinate the unloading of rail and truck at the terminals
  • Coordinate and interact with customers, drivers, sales, logistics, dispatchers and other terminal managers.
  • Perform terminal operator duties as needed with team members including the fulfillment of product to customers, supporting customer service requests, and other operational/mechanical duties assigned within the terminal.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Additional Education Preferred: Bachelor's degree
Field of Study Preferred: Mechanical, Maintenance, Logistics, or equivalent technical degree
Required Work Experience: 3-5 years experience in heavy industry
Required Technical Skills: Proficient computer skills required, SAP knowledge is preferred
Travel Requirements: 20% Regional Travel Required

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience operating heavy machinery required
  • Mechanical skills in heavy industrial environment required
  • Cement Terminal experience preferred
  • Effective leadership, delegation, and interpersonal skills; trustworthy and trusting of others
  • Excellent communication skills required
  • Demonstrated strong self-starting traits and ability to operate effectively with little or no direct supervision
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to make sound decisions on available information
  • Flexibility and ability to adjust to changing priorities
  • Prior supervisory experience is desired
  • Formal training and working experience with OSHA and DOT regulations desired
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
