ABOUT THE ROLE

The HME & Surface Mining Trainer / Inspector is responsible for developing and facilitating training programs and performing site/plant and equipment inspections. They will conduct classroom and hands-on training for new and current personnel, including front-line hourly staff and supervisors, with a focus on the safe and efficient operation of all heavy mobile and aggregate processing equipment and tools. The incumbent ensures all training programs comply with applicable legislation, standards, industry best practices, and organizational policies, and are designed according to adult-learning principles and the targeted audiences' needs. Finally, the incumbent promotes a proactive approach to health and safety management, supporting a safe and healthy working environment

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Develop, coordinate and facilitate training programs to support the safe operation of all heavy mobile equipment used within the aggregate manufacturing process, including but not limited to front-end loaders, rock trucks, excavators, bulldozers, skid steers, graders and drills.
  • Provide feedback on training programs to Health & Safety Department to ensure they meet the specific training needs and learning styles of the targeted audiences.
  • Develop a risk-based training plan in consultation with Operations and Health & Safety teams to ensure all heavy equipment operators receive necessary training.
  • Develop, monitor and maintain all training records, evaluations and certificates to substantiate competency.
  • Perform regular field observations and practical evaluations of operator performance to identify individual training needs and coaching opportunities.
  • Provide physical and written assessments of candidate ability and provide feedback to candidates and management.
  • Regularly engage equipment operators in the field to positively reinforce safe behaviors and coach on correcting unsafe behaviors.
  • Research and evaluate services or tools in the marketplace that could support the effectiveness of training programs.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviours.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Education: Completion of a Diploma or ticketed trade considered an asset.
  • Work Experience: 10-15 years direct experience in the operation of heavy mobile equipment, aggregate plant, and tools
  • Training/Certifications: Strong foundation and familiarity with the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and Mines and Mining Plant Regulations (O. Reg. 854).
  • Technical Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Travel: Local GTA travel approximately 60%.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Timely and sound decision-making skills.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
