ABOUT THE ROLE

The Pipe and Precast Labourer on our afternoon shift plays an important role in the production of high-quality precast concrete products. Working as part of a collaborative production team, this position supports the safe placement, finishing, and curing of concrete while ensuring products meet engineering specifications and quality standards. This role requires strong attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and the ability to perform physically demanding work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The position also provides opportunities to build hands-on skills in concrete placement, equipment coordination, and precast production processes.

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Place concrete into precast forms safely and accurately to meet engineering specifications, placement heights, tolerances, and quality standards.
  • Monitor reinforcing cages, lifters, blockouts, openings, knockouts, and embedded items during pours to ensure alignment and prevent movement.
  • Assist in the safe coordination and operation of concrete hoppers, pouring forklifts, and overhead cranes during placement activities when trained and authorized.
  • Maintain product quality by monitoring concrete consistency, placement, consolidation, and finishing timelines, reporting any issues immediately.
  • Perform finishing tasks including brooming, edging, surface touch-ups, and minor defect corrections to meet product standards.
  • Support production efficiency by assisting with form preparation, reinforcement placement, and pre-pour inspections when time permits.
  • Protect fresh concrete and prepare products for curing by installing tarps, verifying heat systems, and following curing procedures at the end of each shift.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas.
  • Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviours.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Education: Grade 12.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in an industrial or construction-related general labor role.
  • Certifications/Training: WHMIS. Preferred certifications include Forklift, Crane, and ACI - CSA Field Testing Technician.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to operate forklifts, cranes, and shop tools safely and efficiently.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be available for afternoon shift hours (start times vary between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.).
  • Excellent spoken and written English skills.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude and proficient keyboard skills.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and superior organizational abilities.
  • Proven capacity to perform accurately under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain focus for extended periods while ensuring detailed accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating tact and professionalism when interacting with customers and team members.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators.
  • Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
