ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Marine Operations & Logistics Manager is accountable for the safe, reliable, and financially sustainable operation of Amrize’s marine supply chain, ensuring the uninterrupted movement and delivery of barged materials to internal and external customers safely, efficiently, and on time. The role has direct accountability for the overall operational, financial, commercial, and strategic performance of the Marine Operations business supporting GVA Aggregates and other Amrize businesses.

The Manager leads the end-to-end marine logistics function, including marine transportation, vessel and barge operations, marine dispatch, maintenance coordination, third-party marine services, customer service, and operational planning. The role is responsible for balancing service reliability, safety, cost leadership, asset utilization, working capital, and profitability in a 24/7 operating environment.

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Lead a safe, reliable, and financially sustainable Marine Operations business that consistently meets the needs of internal and external customers.
  • Deliver strong business performance by balancing service reliability, operating costs, asset utilization, working capital, and profitability across the marine supply chain.
  • Develop and execute strategies that strengthen the long-term competitiveness, capacity, reliability, and resilience of Marine Operations.
  • Maximize the value and performance of the marine fleet and infrastructure through effective asset planning, maintenance strategies, capital investment, and lifecycle management.
  • Build and maintain strong customer and strategic partner relationships that support service excellence, business growth, and sustainable commercial opportunities.
  • Establish a high-performing culture where employees are engaged, accountable, developed, and empowered to improve safety, reliability, efficiency, and customer service.
  • Strengthen operational resilience by anticipating business risks, preparing for disruptions, and ensuring Marine Operations can respond effectively to changing market, customer, and operational requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and adoption of technology to improve operational visibility, decision-making, productivity, and overall business performance.
  • Develop strong cross-functional partnerships across Amrize to align Marine Operations with broader business objectives and optimize opportunities across product lines and the supply chain.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

Education: University degree 

Field of Study Preferred: Business administration, logistics, supply chain management or engineering

Required Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive management experience with strong knowledge of Terminal and Marine operations. Experience in logistics and supply chain management with experience in unionized environments

Required Technical Skills: Strong computer skills, and exposure to SAP (or similar ERP) and Salesforce.com considered an asset and 

Travel Requirements: 10%

  • Strong customer focus and ability to foster and grow a strong safety culture
  • Strong outsourcing and contractor management experience. Ability to assess potential and risks associated with supplier and market changes, and integrate with category and sourcing strategies
  • Strong communication, negotiation and change management skills
  • Knowledge of construction industry, transportation industry, Marine asset management and knowledge of applicable regulations is an asset, but not essential
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, ability to make sound judgments, establish and implement solutions
  • Independent thinker with good strategic agility, drive for results
  • Proven team leadership across diverse stakeholder groups, ability to work with cross-functional teams and build relationships across multiple functions, product lines, regions and cultures
  • Highly effective time management, planning and organization skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and drive tasks to completion in a fixed time-frame and in a pressured environment
  • Ability to deal with ambiguities, conflicts and adversarial relationships
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
