ABOUT THE ROLE 
Reporting to the Director, WCan Capital and Industrial Systems, the Manager, Capital Planning & Systems oversees all capital activity across Western Canada, supporting growth and operational efficiency across all product lines. As a direct support to ACM SVP’s and GM’s, this role is dedicated to consistently executing the fundamentals of capital planning while driving the portfolio forward through strategic investments that promote business growth.


The Manager leads a distributed team of four direct reports across different cities, focusing on elevating the team’s overall presence, capabilities, schedule adherence, and proactive engagement across the region. Together, this team is expected to elevate our ability to develop and execute on investment opportunities as well as to maintain a rigorous, disciplined capital management system. This is a leadership position intended to instill confidence in business leaders as they pursue growth as a standard aspect of their operations. Responsibilities span the end-to-end investment lifecycle—from identifying opportunities and building localized business cases to executing submittals and closing projects. The Manager will champion WCan’s use of the Capex360 toolkit, driving its evolution and adding continuous value. Additionally, the Manager works closely with the Director, Capital Delivery and Asset Movement to ensure field-level project delivery is effective, properly resourced, de-risked, and clearly demonstrates financial business outcomes.


A highly visible role, it provides guidance and leadership to market areas in developing business cases, planning capital projects, that covers a 5 year horizon and aligns with the CFO and Regional President. Clear and effective communication with executives, business managers, and operations teams is essential to coordinate priorities and achieve business objectives.


This role may also include aspects of Business Strategy development and maintenance, with the local Capex Coordinator resources, that align with supporting major investment activities and business cases. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Implement a Capex Management Cycle that accommodates a 1-5 year cycle
  • Train and Communicate all stakeholders and managers on processes and requirements
  • Manage a team of 4 people. 
  • Organize and facilitate monthly calls/meetings with 4 sub-markets including your staff and SVP/FD for each. 
  • Produce Monthly, Quarterly outputs that show progress and benchmark areas for performance. 
  • Create Accountability within Operations, Procurement, Approvers to meet timeline required through transparency. 
  • Align effectively with NA Capex leadership and own an ongoing constructive relationship.
  • Meet budget targets effectively for Approvals and GR.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Bachelor degree 

Field of Study Preferred: Engineering or applicable Technologist designation.

Required Work Experience: 5 years of project management experience in heavy industry is preferred; experience within cement, mining, or other processing industry is an asset.  Experience creating and reviewing investment business cases is required.

Travel Requirements: 30%

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
