ABOUT THE ROLE
Amrize, a leading supplier of quality, construction building materials in the United States, has immediate openings for a Locomotive Operator to support operations at the Millville Quarry in Millville, WV. The role will be responsible for safely operating the locomotive in the rail yard of the quarry in Millville, WV and efficiently managing railcar movements to support the loading, unloading, and internal transport of aggregate materials.
WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
- Safely operate the locomotive within the quarry rail yard system to switch, move and spot railcars for loading, unloading and distribution of aggregate materials.
- Conduct accurate rail yard switching and prepare railcars for loading/unloading operations, including coupling/uncoupling, positioning and verifying loads.
- Perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections of locomotive and rail-track equipment, report maintenance issues and assist with basic upkeep of track infrastructure.
- Coordinate with loading/unloading crews, plant operations, and logistics to ensure timely flow of materials from quarry to plant or rail transport.
- Maintain clear communication (via radio, hand signals or designated signaling systems) with yard personnel and equipment operators to ensure safe movement of equipment.
- Adhere to all safety, environmental and operational procedures applicable to the aggregates/quarry environment (e.g., dust control, MSHA standards, track safety).
- Maintain housekeeping in the rail yard area—keep tracks, switches, walkways, and locomotive area clean and clear of debris; assist with track/yard maintenance when required.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Field of Study Preferred: Industrial Maintenance or Rail Maintenance
- Required Work Experience: Prior experience operating locomotives, rail yard switching, or rail freight operations preferred; experience in an aggregates or quarry environment is a strong plus.
- Travel Requirements: None
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to perform inspection, basic maintenance and safety checks on locomotives and rail yard equipment.
- Strong communication skills, including radio/hand signal proficiency and ability to coordinate with multiple crews under shifting priorities.
- Comfortable working in a physically demanding environment: climbing on/off equipment, working outside in varying weather conditions, standing for long periods, and moving about around heavy equipment and rail operations.
- Working knowledge of safety regulations applicable to quarry/rail operations (e.g., MSHA, track safety, locomotive operability) and ability to follow and enforce safe practices.
- Flexibility to work required shift schedule, overtime, occasional weekends or unscheduled assignments as quarry rail operations demand.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
