ABOUT THE ROLE
The GVA Lab technician is responsible for the durability requirements and testing for all concrete and aggregate samples for the GVA as well as all reportables therein. The incumbent must adhere to the Amrize WCAN Quality Management Strategy. Reporting to the GVA RMX Quality Control Lab Manager, the incumbent will be expected to be able perform all material strength and durability tests in compliance with CSA and ASTM requirements.The incumbent works with the Laboratory team in performing cylinder transport and curing, compression testing, aggregate testing, product trialing and development, mix optimization, result reporting and KPI tracking in the Richmond Quality Control Lab.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

Quality control of ready-mix, through active testing of finished goods and its raw materials. Including all concrete durability tests as well as aggregate testing (grading, durability etc).

Responsible for keeping and maintaining records and KPI performance inputting.

Supports QA manager with mix performance, mix optimization, product solutions, through KPI’s.

Promotes a positive safety culture; performs all work activities following all relevant safety policies and procedures.

Supports the preparation, batching, mixing and testing of concrete mix designs and cement/cementitious materials (strength, slump, durability, particle size etc), ensures all materials are adequately stocked.

Transportation of cylinders as per CSA specifications.

Tracking and reporting FLRA’s and Environmental checklists.

Contributes to all lab-related non-technical tasks including housekeeping, organization, data entry, and lab maintenance projects.

Monitor and restock office supplies; assist with other administrative tasks as required.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Minimum 2 year College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
Required Work Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in concrete, aggregate, or asphalt industries. Prior field experience in concrete testing is desirable.
Required Training/Certifications: Preference will be given to Accredited C.E.T, or related fields.

Ability to work long hours – weekend work as needed.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with high degree of accuracy.

Demonstrated time management skills.

Demonstrated computer literacy.

Knowledge of CCIL Certifications, accreditations and procedures for concrete.

Knowledge of CSA testing practices.

Able to perform a variety of physical tasks, including moderate to heavy lifting, and repetitive motions.

Accurate and detail oriented.

Independent and resourceful.

Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
