ABOUT THE ROLE

In collaboration with the team of technicians at the Cement Technical Centre (CTC), the Senior Lab Specialist provides technical services to the North American Cement & Cementitious operations and supports Innovation projects led by the Technology and Innovation Group (T&I). This encompasses preparation and testing of innovative building materials, assuring the reliability of lab equipment and measurements and the development of new testing capabilities. This position will also facilitate the knowledge transfer and training for lab personnel in North America on methods like XRF and XRD.

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records, analyze data, and contribute to the interpretation of results.
  • Support research & development projects by performing experiments, analyzing data, and collaborating with research scientists.
  • Provide guidance and technical training to junior lab technicians, team members, and other laboratories.
  • Contribute to the development of laboratory expertise as a lead facilitator for lab trainings.
  • Develop, refine, and optimize lab standards, protocols, and compliance practices.
  • Provide technical expertise for the development, refinement, and troubleshooting of relevant or novel methodologies.
  • Actively support laboratories in achieving Lab Mastery and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviours.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Education: Bachelor
  • Field of Study Preferred: Science or a related discipline
  • Required Work Experience: 10 years of related experience in a laboratory setting, materials lab preferred
  • Required Technical Skills: Strong understanding of laboratory techniques, equipment, and procedures relevant to the specific fields of x-ray fluorescence (XRF), x-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) Travel Requirements: 10%

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Bilingual (French and English) an asset.
  • Strong experience in the development and optimization of laboratory procedures and protocols.
  • Excellent ability to identify and solve problems related to lab operations, equipment, or procedures.
  • Ability to analyze data, interpret results, and troubleshoot technical issue.
  • Expertise in Quality Control techniques and Analytical methods.
  • Knowledge of chemical and physical testing performed in cement industry.
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills (both oral & written).
  • Capable of delivering effective training.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
