ABOUT THE ROLE

The Industrial Millwright or certified maintenance crew maintains, inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, and installs mechanical equipment to support safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Brookfield Cement Plant.

Working with maintenance, production, and other trades, the millwright completes preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on equipment throughout the cement manufacturing process. Key deliverables include quality repairs, timely completion of assigned work, accurate maintenance records, early identification of equipment defects, and safe return of equipment to service.

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Support plant availability by reducing mechanical failures and recurring equipment problems.
  • Complete assigned maintenance safely, on schedule, and to the required quality standards.
  • Identify equipment deterioration early and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support successful shutdowns, equipment installations, and reliable startups.
  • Improve equipment life through proper alignment, lubrication, assembly, and inspection.
  • Provide clear maintenance information to support planning, spare-parts readiness, and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to a team culture built on accountability, cooperation, and care for equipment.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviours.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Education: Completion of an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) apprenticeship or a recognized diploma in industrial mechanical maintenance, or equivalent professional experience. Equivalent experience does not replace any mandatory trade qualification or authorization.
  • Additional Education Preferred: Training in precision maintenance, shaft alignment, bearing installation, lubrication, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, or rigging.
  • Field of Study Preferred: Industrial mechanics, millwrighting, mechanical maintenance, mechanical engineering technology, or a related mechanical trade.
  • Required Work Experience: Minimum three years of hands-on mechanical maintenance experience in a heavy industrial environment. Experience in cement manufacturing, mining, aggregates, pulp and paper, steel, or similar continuous-process operations is preferred. Experience should include troubleshooting, rotating-equipment repair, bearing replacement, alignment, and planned shutdown work.
  • Required Training/Certifications:
  • Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) trade certification; Red Seal endorsement preferred.
  • Must hold a valid Nova Scotia or Interprovincial Industrial Mechanic’s Ticket.
  • Completion of required plant training before performing assigned work, including energy isolation, WHMIS, and task-specific safety procedures.
  • Current training and authorization for confined-space entry, fall protection, rigging, lifting equipment, or mobile equipment where required by the assigned task.
  • Welding qualifications where required for the work performed.
  • Required Technical Skills:
  • Mechanical troubleshooting and repair of industrial equipment.
  • Bearing installation, shaft alignment, coupling assembly, and precision measurement.
  • Practical knowledge of lubrication, power transmission, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, manuals, and technical instructions.
  • Competent use of hand tools, power tools, torque tools, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to document work in a computerized maintenance management system; SAP experience preferred.
  • Clear communication, sound judgment, teamwork, and ownership of work quality.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the role, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
  • Travel Requirements: Primarily based at the Brookfield Cement Plant. Proposed travel requirement: less than 5% for training or occasional support at other locations, with overnight travel expected to be infrequent.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
