ABOUT THE ROLE
The Design Engineer in Training (EIT) is a key member of the engineering and technical team, responsible for developing structural designs for precast concrete structures and components and preparing accurate, complete designs and production documentation. Working closely with Engineering, Sales, Quality Assurance, and Production teams, this role ensures designs meet project specifications, applicable industry standards, manufacturing requirements, and customer needs.

This position will provide relevant and practical work experience to an Engineering in Training (EIT) who intends to pursue a career in the underground infrastructure industry and their accreditation in professional Engineering. The practical office and production-related experience will be consistent with the P.Eng training and hours required to attain your accreditation.

The EIT will effectively gain the required working knowledge of the concrete precast industry to apply industry specific standards, following functional specifications of the designs assigned to them.

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Sales, Quality, and Production teams to incorporate project requirements into design solutions, resolve technical challenges, and deliver projects within established timelines.
  • Identify design issues, evaluate alternative solutions, and implement revisions to improve design accuracy, quality, manufacturability, and customer outcomes.
  • Support effective production by ensuring design documentation meets manufacturing requirements and by incorporating relevant feedback from production personnel.
  • Provide timely technical information, design packages, and responses to engineering consultants, municipalities, and internal stakeholders to support project delivery.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
