ABOUT THE ROLE
The object of this position is to orientate/register all subcontract haulers and ensure the hauling companies and drivers are following all safe work practices and procedures. In this role, you will take responsibility for the education, maintaining of all hauler records, performance, safety and environmental compliance and will assist with developing ongoing efficiencies within our group(s).


WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Supervision of hauling companies, including orientation and safety blitzes; conduct annual hauler safety orientation classes, design and present new materials, and review all incidents in the previous year.
  • Ensure annual registration of all haulers - WCB, insurance requirements, safety inspections, driver’s license/commercial driver abstract, carrier profile, Secor/COR and Master Carrier Agreements; conduct ongoing reviews with hauling companies to ensure that all paperwork is up to date.
  • Ensure all haulers are instructed in and practice safety and environmental procedures and safe work practices and recommendations required to do their jobs in a safe and cost effective manner; be pro-active and investigate all safety and environmental incidents and report accordingly.
  • Attend pre-job meetings and preview and analyze job site requirements; perform pre-job inspections looking for accessibility, delivery problems, truck configurations, and safety concerns as required by Dispatch and/or Sales.
  • Assist in promoting positive customer & public relations by investigating all hauler related complaints from the public, customers and staff; complete all necessary reports and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Track and monitor all current training programs, revise and modify as required; attend tailgates and safety meetings and check scale inspections, following up as needed.
  • Understand DOT requirements and work with DOT to support Alberta legislation on gravel hauling; understand all legal GVW requirements and truck configurations.
  • Commercial Excellence - understand customers, products, and business requirements; establish effective relationships based on quality products, services and convenience; identify and understand current and unmet needs of a customer and translate into a sales opportunity.
  • Participate in formulation of sales and marketing strategies utilizing proper configurations to maximize cost effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: High School diploma required 
Required Training/Certifications: Leadership training; Supply chain certification is an asset 
Required Work Experience: 3-5 years in similar industry or Health and Safety field 
Required technical Skills: Microsoft Office & Google suite proficient

  • Knowledge of truck types and weight capacities
  • Knowledge of the Calgary Area roadways, road bans and surrounding areas

  • Ability to learn quickly while maintaining set standards
  • Ability to see the day play out - strong aptitude for strategy
  • Develop creative solutions with limited resources (breakdowns, plant issues, etc.)
  • Team player
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
