ABOUT THE ROLE
The Modal Manager – Truck for the Western Region is responsible for maximizing truck carrier performance against freight contracts. As such, the Modal Manager will work closely with freight carriers and the Supply Chain team. Additionally, the Modal Manager will support the RFP process by defining service requirements and reviewing bids.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
- Maximizing truck carrier performance against freight contracts.
- Support the RFP process by defining service requirements and reviewing bids.
- Report carrier performance.
- Manage carrier relationships and resolve service issues.
- Maintain data for respective mode within the region (freight rates, fuel surcharges, asset costs, cycle times, etc).
- Manage demurrage for assigned transportation mode.
- Track unnatural moves.
- Manage modal assets – deployments and routine maintenance.
- Maintain awareness of modal business.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Post-secondary education or equivalent experience will be considered.
Field of Study Preferred: Business, Engineering, or a related discipline
Required Work Experience: At least 5 years of experience in the cement or transportation industries. Prior experience in distribution and customer service preferred.
Required Training/Certifications: Logistics Certification preferred.
Required Technical Skills: Demonstrated strong application user skills for MS Office Suite of products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience using SAP or an alternate ERP system preferred.
Travel Requirements: 10%

- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Superior attention to detail and execution focus.
- Strong analytic ability in understanding mode costs
- Deep knowledge of truck mode and working knowledge of other modes of transport used in the Region.
- Knowledge of inbound and outbound transportation networks in the Region.
- Knowledge of applicable regulations.
- Able to effectively use computer systems.
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
