ABOUT THE ROLE
The Operations Manager of Construction has direct responsibility and accountability for the safety and operational performance of the Slipform and Paving on Vancouver Island. The Operations Manager plays a key role in executing safety policies, performance plans, cost savings, KPI targets, managing equipment fleet, and working with staff to ensure projects are completed safely, on budget, no deficiencies, and customer satisfaction. In addition to operations management activities, the Operations Manager may be required to undertake Project Management duties to execute paving projects. The Operations Manager is integral to developing the organization's capacity to increase construction revenue and strengthen organizational capability. This includes coaching and mentoring direct reports and continually promoting a culture of agility, collaboration and empowerment, enabling continuous improvement.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
- Manage construction operations
- Develop and execute short- and long-term plans to support sustainable growth.
- Oversee safety programs, training, and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Deliver on budget targets, KPIs, and financial objectives.
- Maximize profitability and return on assets.
- Lead, develop, and coach key personnel.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviours.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: University Degree, Technical or Business Diploma or equivalent field experience.
Required Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of management experience. Minimum of 5 years of field experience.
Required Technical Skills: Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, SAP.
Travel Requirements:Up to 15% travel across Vancouver Island and periodic travel to regional and corporate locations.

- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication, negotiation and change management skills
- Excellent knowledge of Paving, Asphalt and Construction industry and working in unionized environment
- Strong financial acumen with a solid understanding of EBITDA, budgeting, and performance metrics
- Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams in a field operations environmentSound business judgment with the ability to engage effectively with internal stakeholders and key operational partners
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills
- Strong communication, negotiation, and change management capabilities
- Knowledge of the paving and construction industry dynamics; experience in a unionized environment is an asset
- Demonstrated ability to foster and sustain a strong safety culture
- Self-directed with the ability to perform under pressure and manage competing priorities
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and properly use Amrize-approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respirators where required. Employees required to wear respirators must be clean-shaven at the seal-to-face interface to pass qualitative and quantitative fit testing.
