ABOUT THE ROLE

The Yard Supervisor is responsible for leading the safe and efficient operation of the plant yard while ensuring work is completed in accordance with environmental, quality, production, and cost objectives.

The role coordinates the activities of yard employees, temporary workers, and contractors to maintain a clean, safe, and environmentally compliant plant. The Yard Supervisor is accountable for planning and coordinating daily and weekly yard activities, managing departmental resources and budgets, and holding employees accountable to established safety, performance, and work standards. Working closely with Production, Maintenance, and other departments, the Yard Supervisor supports the achievement of the plant's operational goals.

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Demonstrate visible safety leadership and promote a strong safety culture, including conducting inspections, hazard assessments, and safety meetings.
  • Supervise 10–20 yard employees during normal operations and up to 50 employees during major maintenance shutdowns.
  • Schedule, assign, and coordinate daily work activities for yard employees, temporary workers, and contractors.
  • Manage staffing requirements, including absenteeism, vacations, overtime, and timecards.
  • Train, onboard, and support employee development through coaching, performance management, and regular feedback.
  • Administer the Collective Agreement and address day-to-day labour relations matters.
  • Coordinate yard activities to support plant operations, maintenance schedules, and housekeeping standards throughout the plant.
  • Ensure mobile equipment is operated safely and defects or incidents are reported.
  • Monitor departmental spending, identify cost-reduction opportunities, and support plant KPIs through effective planning and execution.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviours.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Education: Post-secondary education or equivalent industrial and supervisory experience.
  • Field of Study Preferred: Business, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Required Work Experience: 5 years’ experience in a heavy industry, two of which are at a supervisory level.
  • Required Technical Skills: Experience with MS Office and SAP is an asset.
  • Travel Requirements: 10%.

  • Have good knowledge of yard processes, conflict resolution, coaching, and training skills.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
