2nd Shift Utility Operator
 

ABOUT THE ROLE

Amrize, a leading supplier of quality, construction building materials in the United States, has immediate openings for a 2nd Shift Utility Operator to support operations at  our Rockville, MD Quarry. A Utility Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment and utility machinery within the Quarry to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous Quarry operations. Performs routine inspections, basic maintenance, and process adjustments while supporting production goals and maintaining compliance with safety and environmental standards. 

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

• Operate heavy equipment, including wheel loaders and dozers, to support quarry production, material handling, stockpiling, and site maintenance activities.
• Safely load, move, and transport aggregate materials throughout the quarry and processing areas using loaders and other mobile equipment.
• Operate dozers to maintain stockpiles, roadways, work areas, drainage areas, and quarry surfaces as needed.
• Perform daily pre- and post-operation inspections of heavy equipment and report mechanical or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
• Assist with general quarry labor activities, including cleanup, material handling, shoveling, site maintenance, and maintaining organized work areas.
• Use hand tools and power tools to perform routine maintenance, repairs, adjustments, and general upkeep of quarry equipment and facilities.
• Perform basic electrical tasks, such as assisting with wiring, replacing basic electrical components, and troubleshooting minor electrical issues under appropriate supervision.
• Assist maintenance personnel with equipment repairs, preventative maintenance, and servicing of crushers, conveyors, screens, and other quarry equipment.
• Monitor equipment operation and identify unusual noises, leaks, vibrations, or other conditions that may indicate a maintenance issue.
• Maintain quarry roads, work areas, stockpiles, and drainage systems to support safe and efficient daily operations.
• Safely work around conveyors, crushers, screens, hoppers, and other fixed and mobile quarry equipment while following established lockout/tagout and safety procedures.
• Perform manual labor tasks as needed, including lifting, carrying, digging, cleaning, sweeping, and moving materials or equipment.
• Maintain and properly use assigned hand tools, power tools, and equipment while following manufacturer and company safety requirements.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, equipment operators, maintenance personnel, and other quarry employees to coordinate daily work activities.
• Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, environmental procedures, and operating standards while working in an active quarry environment.
• Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent
• Required Work Experience: Experience operating heavy equipment in an industrial or recycling environment
• Previous experience operating heavy equipment, with a strong preference for hands-on experience with wheel loaders and dozers.
• Experience working in a quarry, aggregate, construction, mining, or similar industrial environment.
• Strong understanding of safe heavy equipment operation and the ability to perform routine equipment inspections.
• General labor experience with the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in an outdoor, industrial environment.
• Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge, with the ability to assist with minor repairs and troubleshooting.
• Comfortable using a variety of hand tools and power tools for maintenance, repairs, and general site work.
• Ability to recognize equipment issues, report potential problems, and communicate effectively with supervisors and maintenance personnel.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety, including proper PPE use and adherence to established safety procedures.
• Ability to work independently while also supporting the maintenance, production, and quarry operations teams.
• Dependable, safety-conscious, and willing to perform a variety of tasks to support the efficient operation and maintenance of the quarry.
• Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends or overtime if needed

Additional Requirements:

• Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
