ABOUT THE ROLE
As we continue to look for more sustainable ways to build, we need world-class talent to join our team. We are seeking a Government Affairs & Sustainability Intern for Summer 2027 who is passionate about sustainability, driven by curiosity, and keen to grow, learn, develop, and thrive in our high-performance culture. This opportunity will be a 10-week, paid internship beginning June 1, 2027, based in Washington DC.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
As a Government Affairs & Sustainability Intern, you will work closely with our Public Policy and Corporate Sustainability teams, helping to track public policy, monitor regulatory exposure, and advance our business-aligned advocacy strategy:
- Policy & Legislative Tracking: Assist in monitoring federal, state, and local legislation, focusing on priority issues such as building codes, packaging Extended Producer Responsibility, energy efficiency, and resilience-focused incentives.
- Trade Association & Coalition Support: Help evaluate trade association investments, track engagement across external partners, and support the alignment of public policy initiatives with corporate priorities.
- Sustainability & Market Access Research: Conduct research on emerging building standards, cool roof mandates, decarbonization policy, and market access dynamics affecting sustainable building materials.
- Stakeholder Briefings & Messaging: Assist in drafting policy briefs, position papers, and executive reporting materials to help communicate regulatory risks and opportunities to leadership.
- Skill Application: Utilize research, analytical, and written communication skills in day-to-day operations while collaborating with leadership to achieve team and company goals.
- Executive Presentation: At the end of your internship, you'll present your project outcomes and learnings directly to our executive leadership team.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for enthusiastic students who meet the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program majoring in Public Policy, Political Science, Sustainability/Environmental Science, Economics, Business, or a similar field.
- Strong academic performance and a keen interest in environmental policy, sustainable manufacturing, or corporate government relations.
- Geographic flexibility to work at various sites.
- Exceptional written, research, and oral communication skills.
- High energy, proactive problem-solving abilities, and an analytical approach to complex policies.
- Willingness to spend significant time in the field, gaining hands-on experience and firsthand knowledge of our business operations.
SCHEDULE AND ENVIRONMENT
- Work Schedule: This is an onsite role with a mandatory 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, working an 8-hour shift each day.
- Work Environment: You will be working in an office environment.
- Transportation: You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from the worksite.
- Travel Requirements: You may need to travel for site tours, legislative hearings, or intern events throughout the duration of your internship.
