Join Amrize as a Production Coordinator, Slag Plant and help construct what's next. If you're ready to put your skills to work on projects that matter — and build a career with a company that’s building North America — we want to hear from you!

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Production Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the safe, reliable and efficient day-to-day operation of the South Chicago Slag Grinding Plant. The position provides hands-on operational leadership across raw slag receiving and handling, drying, grinding, finished-product storage, and truck and barge shipping.

The Production Coordinator works closely with the Operations Manager, Maintenance Coordinator, and hourly operations employees to maximize plant availability, production and shipment performance while meeting safety, environmental, quality and cost objectives.

A key focus of the role is establishing strong operating discipline, developing employees, improving equipment reliability, reducing production interruptions and continuously identifying better and more cost-effective ways to operate the facility.

Position Location:  Amrize South Chicago Slag Grinding Plant    2150 E. 130th Street, Chicago, Illinois 60633

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Coordinate daily operation of the slag receiving, material handling, dryer, grinding mill, conveying systems, finished-product storage and truck/barge load-out systems.
  • Translate monthly and weekly production requirements into clear daily operating priorities and production targets.
  • Maintain a strong presence in the plant, routinely inspecting operating areas and working directly with employees to identify and resolve production constraints.
  • Monitor plant performance throughout the day and take corrective action when production, quality, reliability or shipping performance deviates from plan.
  • Lead troubleshooting of operating problems and work closely with Maintenance to minimize downtime and restore equipment to service safely and quickly.
  • Partner with the Maintenance Coordinator to identify recurring equipment failures, establish repair priorities, improve preventive maintenance and prepare for planned outages.
  • Participate in outage planning, including scope development, sequencing, contractor coordination, startup preparation and post-outage follow-up.
  • Coordinate truck and barge shipping activities to ensure finished-product inventories, production schedules and customer requirements remain aligned.
  • Review production, downtime and operating data daily and identify opportunities to improve throughput, equipment utilization, reliability and cost per ton.
  • Establish and maintain clear operating standards, including SOPs, operating parameters, inspection routes, checklists and first-level equipment inspections.
  • Reinforce strong shift-to-shift communication through production meetings, operating logs, shift handovers and follow-up on outstanding issues.
  • Develop operator capability through training, coaching, qualification and cross-training, ensuring employees understand both how equipment is operated and why operating standards matter.
  • Support the Operations Manager in workforce planning, schedules, vacation coverage, overtime management and contractor coordination.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis following significant equipment failures, production losses or quality events and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Ensure production activities comply with all Amrize health, safety and environmental requirements, including contractor activities.
  • Participate in incident investigations, hazard identification and corrective-action follow-up.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
