ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Director of Construction is responsible for the strategic planning, executive oversight, and successful delivery of the regional construction portfolio. This role shifts focus from individual project management to departmental leadership, ensuring that all projects are completed safely, on time, and within margin. You will lead a team of Project Managers and Superintendents, offering high-level technical guidance and ensuring that the department’s operational goals align with the broader business unit’s financial targets. This position requires a significant presence in the field to audit quality standards and mentor the next generation of construction leaders.
WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
• Strategic Oversight: Develop and review comprehensive project plans for the entire regional portfolio. Determine optimal phasing and resource allocation across multiple simultaneous jobsites.
• Financial Performance: Own the construction department's P&L. Review monthly business results, identify performance gaps, and implement corrective actions to protect profitability.
• Safety Leadership: Champion a world-class safety culture. Oversee compliance with all health, safety, and environmental policies, ensuring that safety is integrated into every phase of the project lifecycle.
• Operational Excellence: Apply broad and diversified knowledge of construction principles and best practices to improve departmental productivity and workmanship quality.
• Stakeholder Management: Act as the executive point of contact for project owners, inspectors, and major third-party stakeholders. Lead high-stakes negotiations and problem-solve complex technical or contractual issues.
ADDITIONAL TASKS
• Direct Leadership: Oversee Project Managers, Construction Superintendents, and Administrative Support staff.
• Resource Optimization: Estimate and manage the participants, equipment, and materials needed to achieve annual project goals.
• Quality Assurance: Establish and audit quality control standards from initial site preparation through to final project closeout.
• Bid & Estimate Strategy: Collaborate with the Estimating team to review major bid summaries, ensuring that project plans are realistic in terms of productivity and regional constraints.
• Executive Reporting: Provide frequent updates to senior management on portfolio status, completion percentages, and financial forecasting.
• Navigate Municipalities: Provides technical leadership and SME coverage for major projects across the West Region, expertly managing municipal interfaces and regulatory stakeholders within a matrixed structure to ensure cross-program alignment with local ordinances
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Project Management (Required).
Required Work Experience: 10–15+ years of progressive experience in construction management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or departmental role.
Financial Literacy: Proven experience in job costing, multi-million-dollar budgeting, and financial forecasting
Required Technical Skills: Mastery of Microsoft Office and professional-grade construction software (e.g., Bid2Win, Procore, or similar ERPs).
Travel: Regular local travel to regional job sites to manage performance and address site-specific issues.
Additional Requirements:
• Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Subject to applicable law, employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests
