ABOUT THE ROLE

The prime objective of the Quality Expert is to provide product and quality assistance to North America cement manufacturing sites so as to make Amrize’s cement the product of choice in the marketplace. This encompasses supporting operations in: optimizing the quality and consistency of their products at every step of the manufacturing process, ensuring processes are in place to minimize risks and litigation and assuring the reliability of lab equipment and measurements. This position will also facilitate the execution and promotion of the quality related strategic initiatives from Group level.

The preferred location for this position is our Dundee, MI office. However, you could also be located near one of cement plants around the country. Relocation assistance is available.

 

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Responsible to drive H&S performance, including exemplary housekeeping, robust adherence to standards and ensuring a strong positive H&S culture. Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas. Actively manages risks by ensuring that all related control activities are thoroughly implemented, including safe work job planning. Drives committed and effective incident management through active participation in incident review, investigation, and corrective action creation. Promotes a culture of rigorous risk assessment, incident reporting and leading indicators, i.e., Near Misses, Visible Personal Commitment (VPC), Boots on the Ground.
  • Drive performance through optimizing quality and uniformity at every step of the manufacturing process, including assessing the use of new ARM, review raw mix designs and optimize clinker. Review plant product performance and support sites with improvement actions. Provide Quality performance benchmarks. Share potential improvement areas and agree on target values with Corporate Technical Support teams. Work closely with plant and sales to establish market competitive performance targets for each product and collaborate in defining improvement actions when needed. Drive implementation and ensure proper usage of Cement Industrial Framework (CIF) tools, systems and methods for Quality; support roll out and training of the site workforce, and monitor progress. Helps to coordinate support and provides (and / or looks for) technical support for critical issues (e.g., major customer complaints). Actively supports laboratories in reaching Lab Excellence (improving and sustaining) and ensuring compliance to Industry Standards.
  • Define and maintain a global strategy on analytical equipment for cement plant labs: responsible for fleet renewal schedule, main contact for major instrument vendors. Actively contributes to, and drives for, the competency development of Quality and plant lab population at site level in cooperation with the Learning & Development team. Creates and encourages networks for the Quality and plant lab teams (i.e., Managers, Engineers, Coordinators, Supervisors, etc.) in order to share challenges and solutions.
  • Contribute to the development of Product and Quality Expertise. Lead facilitator for Product & Quality trainings. Provide experience back to Corporate Technical Support to enrich know how and share best practices in the areas of quality. Demonstrate teamwork, ensuring openness and respect for others, and welcome feedback. Support the development, design and execution of capital development projects. Act as a cement quality expert in developing, leading and participating in targeted training programs within the region.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS 

  • Zero Harm
  • Optimizing product at each step of the process (raw mix LSF, clinker LSF, cement strength).
  • Setting performance-based targets for cement
  • Supporting proper calibration of lab equipment
  • Assisting plants with TIS/LIMS configuration
  • Monitor progress and sustainability of plant LAI
  • Review and monitoring of quality KPIs

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education: Bachelor's degree

Additional Education Preferred:

Field of Study Preferred: Chemical Engineering or a related discipline

 

Required Work Experience:

10 years plant experience in Cement quality related field

 

Required Training/Certifications:

 

Required Technical Skills:

  • Experience in other operational areas: Production, process, quarry, RMX.
  • ISO and TIS/LIMS knowledge
  • Strong computer skills including the use of MS office/google suite applications, etc.
  • Good knowledge of statistical methods, their application and use in control of cement quality

 

Travel Requirements: 50%

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge of Cement Chemistry and its impact on Product Quality and Applications
  • Advanced knowledge of raw material, fuel and process impact on product properties (raw mix optimization, clinker reactivity & uniformity)
  • Expertise in Quality Control techniques and Analytical methods
  • Excellent knowledge of chemical and physical testing performed in cement industry
  • Solid knowledge of Quality management system, Regional Standards and Specifications
  • Strong leadership and capability to interact with influence
  • Strong communication skills (both oral & written).
  • Capable of delivering effective training to all personnel
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact with plant personnel.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Subject to applicable law, employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
