ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Structural/Civil Engineer reports to the Head of Engineering North America and will be responsible for proposing, in relevant technical field, safe, sound, innovative and optimized solutions providing short to long term competitive advantage vs competition, executing civil and structural engineering on projects, in compliance with all applicable safety and civil and structural standards, supporting/managing project teams and site teams on civil and structural matters, contributing to the evaluation and promotion of new civil/structural technologies, and to the improvement of Amrize civil standards.
WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
- Proposing, in relevant technical field, safe, sound, innovative and optimized solutions providing short to long term competitive advantage vs competition,
- Executing civil and structural engineering on projects, in compliance with all applicable safety and civil and structural standards,
- Supporting project teams and site teams on civil and structural matters, contributing to the evaluation and promotion of new civil/structural technologies, and to the improvement of Amrize civil standards.
- Proposing safe, innovative, and optimized construction solutions allowing to reduce CAPEX costs, to execute construction works in safe conditions and to satisfy expected lifetime of the structures, buildings, infrastructures.
- Ensuring execution of civil engineering (soil and geotechnical investigations, preparation of technical specifications for tendering, review and evaluation of technical offers, clarifications with bidders, review of civil guide drawings, calculation notes and detailed civil design) on, incorporating all applicable safety and civil construction standards on technical scope of the projects, participating and contributing to the design reviews (safety in design, operability and maintainability).
- Contributing to technical qualification of civil contractors, providing support and expertise to the project teams for technical follow-up and troubleshooting during construction works, providing “post mortem” inputs on relevant technical field on each project and sharing them, providing support and expertise to CIP/Operating Plants to mitigate technological core risks (audit of existing structures and buildings,
- recommendations for repair and reinforcement).
- Conducting a construction watch with contractors, proposing continuous improvement of relevant Amrize civil technical standards and tools and capitalizing new experiences into projects.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS
- The Senior Structural/Civil Engineer shall exercise his/her expertise on a large spectrum of CAPEX investment projects (greenfield, brownfield, debottlenecking,) from medium size projects (5 - 10 Million USD) up to large projects (10 to 100 Million USD) and extra-large size projects (> 100 Million USD) in cement, aggregates, ready mix, alternative raw material and fuels, power and logistics.
- The Senior Structural/Civil Engineer must handle his/her activities on several Projects in parallel, they shall be able to operate in a multicultural and multi-expert team in several locations.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Bachelor's degree
Field of Study Preferred: Structural or Civil Engineering
Required Work Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in civil works for large infrastructures and/or heavy industry.
Required Technical Skills:
- Expertise in design, calculation, control, construction and audit of foundations, reinforced concrete and steel structures for buildings and large infrastructures,
- Knowledge of major design/construction codes in key countries,
- Capabilities to challenge and to provide recommendation for optimization of structure sizing and subsequent reduction of BOQs,
- Knowledge in reinforcement/repair methods of weakened/damaged structures.
Travel Requirements: 30 - 50%
Additional Requirements:
Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Subject to applicable law, employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
