THE ROLE
The Pipe Quality Control Technician – Summer Student is a responsible team member that will learn and contribute to provide constant monitoring and record keeping for the various stages of production of precast concrete drainage products, as it relates to quality (i.e. compliance with CSA A257, CCPPA, CPCQA, job specifications, plant standards, and procedures). The role ensures the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive pipe quality control program.


WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Ensure that all materials and workmanship are in accordance with required specifications and drawings as applicable.
  • Keep on file a complete set of shop drawings for each product type and review job specific data/specifications with the Plant Engineer and inform plant personnel.
  • Monitor and record the review of all purchased materials as they are received (i.e. cement, aggregate, admixtures, reinforcing, miscellaneous iron etc.) before and during placement into products.
  • Perform testing of plastic and cured concrete (i.e. air, slump, cylinder breaks ect.) and record all necessary information as per specifications.
  • Evaluate mix design performance and consult Plant Engineer for necessary adjustments.
  • Conduct audits and measurements of production processes, including wire welding, cutting, batch weights, machine vibrations, product finishing, and loading controls.
  • Monitor and record all pertinent plant procedures. This includes keeping the required records and distributing report forms as outlined in the internal Quality program.
  • Perform a pre-pour inspection and follow-up post pour review of all products and provide a quality sign-off.
  • Report any and all non-conformance issues to the QA/QC Manager and write necessary Non-Conformance Reports.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
     

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Student of Civil Engineering/Construction Technology or Civil Engineering preferred; relevant work experience will also be considered
Required Training/Certifications: CCIL or ACI certification an asset
Additional requirements: 

  • Excellent computer and math skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and planning abilities.
  • Positive attitude and strong team-oriented approach.
  • Schedule and oversee regular testing of equipment and materials to ensure compliance with established standards.
  • Prepare the necessary inspection forms for each specific job being monitored and record all data appropriately.
  • Knowledge of cementitious materials and concrete properties is an asset.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
