ABOUT THE ROLE
Amrize Canada is recruiting a highly skilled and experienced Temporary Journeyperson Welder / Fabricator to maintain process equipment, repair, optimize, and fabricate equipment and structural components for our Cement Plant in Kamloops B.C.  This role requires top-tier welding skills, strong mechanical aptitude, leadership qualities, and a proactive approach to safety, quality, and preventive maintenance.

 

This is a contract position. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH

  • Perform high-quality welding, cutting, fitting, and structural fabrication on heavy equipment, aggregate, fixed and mobile conveyors, chutes, hoppers, and shop tools.
  • Execute permanent, lasting repairs and structural modifications aimed at maximizing equipment lifespan, preventing recurring breakdowns, and minimizing operational downtime.
  • Maintain and repair Cement manufacturing equipment
  • Actively participate in and contribute technical expertise to morning safety meetings and project planning huddles.
  • Execute and perform all other welding, fabrication, mechanical assistance, shop maintenance, and operational tasks as assigned by management.
  • Operate heavy equipment (e.g., loaders, forklifts, rigging tools) as necessary for shop and field work safely and effectively.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and
    environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Required Work Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of Journeyperson experience in heavy industrial,mining, aggregates, marine, or heavy construction sectors. 
Required Training/Certifications: Valid Red Seal / Journeyperson Welder Certification (Red Seal/Journeyman status required). Valid Driver’s License (Class 5 minimum).
Required Technical Skills: Mechanical aptitudes for repairing operational equipment.
Additional Requirements:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment
  • Experience operating heavy equipment (loaders, forklifts, mobile cranes) is considered strong asset.
  • Demonstrable experience with project pre-planning, material takeoff, and efficient resource allocation.
  • Proven track record in complex layout, fitting, structural steel fabrication, and field repair under varying conditions.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work independently or support a team with minimal supervision.
  • Troubleshooting: Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills for complex structural and mechanical repairs.
  • Flexibility: Must be willing and able to work overtime, evenings, or weekends as required by operational demand.
  • Physical Demands: Able to stand, walk, bend, lift heavy materials, and work in shop and outdoor field environments.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
