ABOUT THE ROLE
The Aggregates / Asphalt Operations Manager, Vancouver Island, is responsible for the safety, operational performance, and commercial results of aggregate and asphalt operations across Vancouver Island. This role drives operational excellence to achieve production targets, budgets, and KPI objectives while overseeing CAPEX, equipment fleet, reserve development, and cross-functional coordination.The Manager plays a key role in building organizational capacity and capability through leadership, coaching, and execution of strategic initiatives. This includes supporting sales strategy and fostering a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and a consistent commitment to safety and operational discipline while advancing the Amrize brand on Vancouver Island.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
- Manage aggregate and asphalt operations, including production, budgeting, land management, and customer relations.
- Develop and execute short- and long-term plans to support sustainable growth.
- Secure and manage reserves to maintain a minimum 20-year supply.
- Oversee safety programs, training, and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Deliver on budget targets, KPIs, and financial objectives.
- Maximize profitability and return on assets.
- Lead, develop, and coach key personnel.
- Drive continuous improvement to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Promote and maintain a strong culture of health, safety, and environmental responsibility.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: University Degree, Technical Diploma, or equivalent field experience.
Field of Study Preferred: Business or Engineering field preferred.
Required Work Experience: Minimum 10 years of management experience with hands-on operational background including production and field experience. Minimum 5 years of direct field experience in aggregates or related heavy industry.
Required Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, and SAP.
Travel Requirements: Up to 15% travel across Vancouver Island and periodic travel to regional and corporate locations.
Additional Requirements:
- Strong financial acumen with a solid understanding of EBITDA, budgeting, and performance metrics.
- Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams in a field operations environment.
- Sound business judgment with the ability to engage effectively with internal stakeholders and key operational partners.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and change management capabilities.
- Knowledge of paving, asphalt, and construction industry dynamics; experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to foster and sustain a strong safety culture.
- Self-directed with the ability to perform under pressure and manage competing priorities.
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and properly use Amrize-approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respirators where required. Employees required to wear respirators must be clean-shaven where the respirator seal meets the face to pass qualitative and quantitative fit testing.
