ABOUT THE ROLE
Vernon Paving, a division of Amrize Canada Inc., operating in the Okanagan Valley is currently seeking applications for a full-time seasonal construction labourer.We currently employ approximately 25 staff, servicing municipal, commercial, residential and provincial asphalt paving markets. Vernon Paving is a Union company that offers employee benefits and competitive wages starting at $32.45/hr subject to the qualifications and experience. We offer a safe work environment, on the job training, up to date well-kept equipment and room for advancement. These positions are based out of our Armstrong location and work sites are throughout the North Okanagan.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
- General laborer duties associated with all aspects of road construction including base and paving
- Required ability to shovel, rake and handle other small tools.
- Assist in the placement, moving, and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones, spotting, flagging and other traffic control devices.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Work in a team environment to ensure that project timelines are met
- Assist with other paving-related tasks as needed
- Follow and adhere to all the Company’s safety procedures and directives
- Responsible to ensure all work is completed in a safe manner
- Perform work in outdoor construction site settings
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Work Experience: Previous experience working on asphalt and concrete paving projects. Road construction experience is considered an asset.
Additional Requirements:
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain proper grades and slopes
- Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with coworkers
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Must be able to work under pressure
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements and applicable safety policies
- Willingness to work flexible hours
- Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt
- Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
