ABOUT THE ROLE
The Plant Operator is responsible for all the day-to-day production and mechanical operations of the slag grinding plant including but not limited to process control, quality, environment, and troubleshooting equipment. In addition, incumbent is responsible for safely installing and maintaining machinery and supporting structures according to manufacturer’s specifications and will be responsible for Preventative Maintenance and Continuous Improvements on equipment and repairs on all production/facility related equipment.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
- Operate Plant as per SOPs in a constant production environment grinding Raw Slag to finished powder cement.
- Sample product at various points and do basic testing analysis for plant operations and quality controls.
- Grease plant and perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and preventative maintenance.
- Fill out reports for production and quality control, and issue tracking.
- Issue BOLs in SAP production for shipping of finished product.
- Clean up plant and yard, ensuring all equipment and tools used are cleaned and put away after use.
- Handle snow removal and lawn care when required.
- Load trucks with finished product as well as direct truck unloading to correct Silos.
- Report any unsafe or broken equipment or practices.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviours.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Education: Grade 12 diploma or equivalent; any operator or maintenance training is an asset.
- Required Work Experience: 3-5 years of work experience in construction or manufacturing-related fields, post-secondary certificates, or equipment operator training is an asset.
- Required Training/Certifications: Valid Driver's License is required.
- Required Technical Skills: SAP experience preferred; proficiency in Office platform software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Google Drive Platform).
- Travel Requirements: 0% travel.
Additional Requirements:
- Safety: Promote safety culture through engagement with employees, JHSC, and subcontractors with an objective of “zero” safety incidents. Demonstrate good housekeeping practices at all times to help maintain a safe work area.
- Production: Constant monitoring of process control equipment, quality, and environmental parameters, as well as starting and stopping related manufacturing equipment. On-line process quality control regarding additives and raw slag. Troubleshoot, correct, and inspect plant equipment with regards to the slag cement manufacturing process (including operating roller press, ball mill, and loading trucks).
- Maintenance & Preventative Maintenance: Set up and perform alignments on equipment; troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, compressors, pumps, and turbines. Operate mechanical equipment and inspect hand-held equipment (torches, oxygen lances, power tools, hand tools). Perform assigned Preventive Maintenance activities (lubrication, inspections) throughout the plant and yards.
- Reporting & Administration: Ensure proper product, weights, and tickets are completed. Maintain accurate recordkeeping (shift reports, downtime reports, daily reports, work orders). Collect, prepare, and analyze routine samples of process control materials.
- Physical Demands & Work Conditions: Ability to handle physical demands (heavy lifting up to 100 lbs max, hammer drilling, sledgehammering, shoveling, carrying supplies). Flexibility in dealing with hours outside of normal business hours due to 24/7 site operations.
- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
